Brainstorming Ideas-List of Ten

Updated on January 25, 2012

If you are editing a newsletter, hosting a website, writing an article or producing a blog a constant stream of ideas is needed to keep your readers interested in your content and to make your content continually interesting. If you have quality content you will receive continual traffic for your content. Struggling with ideas can choke your creative juices and stunt your writing ability. Brainstorming is a resource to use for idea generation. The List of Ten is one of the most powerful brainstorming ideas ever created.

The List of Ten is as simple as it sounds. Make a list of ten ideas each day or week and you will always have a resource for ideas for your website, blog, newsletter or articles. Generating or brainstorming your List of Ten doesn’t have to be difficult. There are several things you can do to make the process as easy as it sounds.

You need to schedule or set aside time for idea production. Don’t do anything else during this time- period. Don’t watch television or help the children with their homework. Make certain this time is specifically for generating your List of Ten ideas creation. You don’t need hours of time. However, 10 to 15 solid minutes of idea invention time is adequate for the process. If you cannot make a complete list of ten, don’t worry. Whatever you can get done is great. Next session you may make 15 or even 20 minutes to create ideas. However, motivate yourself to produce ten.

One thing that makes many writers that attempt this exercise fail is forgetting a rule of thumb with brainstorming, don’t judge. Don’t write down each idea and critique and analyze the information at this stage of the game. Simply produce your various List of Ten ideas and let the thoughts flow. Don’t permit yourself to judge if an idea is stupid or silly.

use your list of ten to create great article content.

Select a topic or area to focus on for your ten ideas. If you have an area that you feel comfortable in, a subject or topic, begin there. Allow yourself to make your list of ten from a comfortable area to start the process. The more List of Ten ideas you create, the easier it will become.

If you are generating for a website or blog you will generally have an area of focus. Many writers will come up with ten topics that are relevant to their blog or niche and use these ten topics for later brainstorming sessions. In other words, you will come up with ten ideas for your niche. At a following session take # 3 from the List of Ten and come up with ten ideas for # 3.

Try not to deviate too far from your main niche if writing ideas for websites or blogs. Remember, your readers are interested in specific content and expect to see this information when they are following your newsletter, blog or site. Articles are slightly different. If you don’t have a specific niche you have to follow, this allows some creativeness on your part and your List of Ten can be all over the place. It is easier to have one focal point, but if you can work in a different mode and not lose anything from the creative process by all means, do so. Some writers find it easier to make a note on another idea that may come to them in the process of working on a specific area of interest and come back to it later.

Great writers are also great readers. Read other blogs, newsletters, websites and articles. Use your List of Ten to expand upon things you have read. There may be a great idea that you know you could do better. Make a List of Ten from comments that have been left by readers of your content on your site, blog or articles.

Work from your list to learn new things or test your ingenuity. This is where those stupid or silly brainstorming ideas come into play. Use those ideas that would have otherwise been written off as stupid or silly. Tweak and turn them into something you can work with.

The List of Ten is a great way to brainstorm for new and great ideas. You can write an article or newsletter based upon a list of ten that you have created. Take all ten on your list and write one article that contains the complete list.

As a writer great ideas are there and waiting to get free of your imagination. Help them out every now and then. This is a great way to do just that.

You're so right and thanks for helping us. My former classmate is helping me create a blog site that has general theme. I chose one and he put emphasis on the coherence of my topics, make that theme my bottom line.
