Hubpages Scam! Or, is it Actually Legit? Read an Unbiased Hubpages Review
Before you bite my head off!
If you are already a member of Hubpages.com, then I hope the title didn't have you already concocting a string of abuse to throw at me [laughing out loud]. I recently searched for Hubpages.com and was surprised to see that people are still unsure whether this site is a scam or not, despite how long the Hubpages website has been around. There are a lot of Hubpages reviews out there, but unfortunately many don't give the full and honest picture, just a one sided rant.
Hence, I decided to set the record straight by writing an honest Hubpages hub about whether or not it really is a scam, covering the main pros and cons honestly and openly (if you disagree with my Hubpages review, please let me know in the comments). Some probably won't be happy with what I have to say, but I feel that both sides of the story need to be told. So, here we go ...
The Hubpages Review
Hub Pages, or Hubpages, depending on how you like to refer to it, is not to be confused with hubpage.com, which is a website designed to be a 'hub' for linking to other promotional sites and offering blogging tools (I have not confirmed whether or not hubpage.com is a scam or legit). This is likely not the site you are looking for, if you are looking to write online and make some money online.
Hubpages.com, however, I can confirm is the REAL DEAL! But, it all depends on what you are looking for, as to whether or not you would consider it to be a scam website, or not.
'How dare you', I can hear being muttered from fellow hubbers' lips (hubbers is the term for Hubpages members)... but wait a moment, hear me out and please continue to read, as there is a balanced argument about to be made and I think my reasoning is fair.
It is all about your priorities, as to what you will experience here. If you are looking for an intelligent community, support, feedback and an audience for your thoughts ... you are most certainly in the right place. Hubpages is a wonderfully interactive website that generates a lot of traffic to your articles through its huge database of members and also through its high PR and placement in search engine results (SERPs). This means that new members (especially those that spend a bit of time being social) can attract readers and followers very quickly.
However, if you are looking to 'spam' your product, over promote your website, or include a million links to affiliate sites you try to sell for ... forget it! This would not be the site for you. Control is quite strict now, but that is to ensure quality content is provided and that the cheats, or heavy sellers, are kept off of the site. Spammers and 'black hat SEO' will not find what they want here, as chances are they will be banned quickly. That is not to mention the fact that most 'seasoned' hubbers can quickly spot a fake member, or internet marketer. Reasonable levels of website and business promotion is still allowed on this site, but these have to be informative and original articles, preferably of 800+ words and with a maximum of two external links. The articles should look to answer a question, or to fill a need, not just to talk up a site.
Moreover, if you NEED MONEY and want an instant online solution ... you may consider this site to be a scam too. Yes, it offers you money from your articles (via adsense, Hubpages ads, Amazon and eBay when people click on these), but you are not likely to earn big until you have hundreds, or even thousands of articles. This may take you many years to do, so this is not the site for you if you want a 'quick fix' and instant income. It is possible for Hubpages adsense earnings to increase to reasonable levels, as the more views you get, the more adsense Hubpages clicks you will receive. Moreover, search engines see thousands of new sites every day, so they also respect age. Hence, the longer you stay and write quality content, the more traffic they are likely to send as your URL will be aged and full of useful content.
However, personally I find that the Hubpages advertising program is a more stable way of earning, as this pays you for views and clicks, not just for clicks like Google adsense does. With the Hubpages advert program, you can also earn with Adsense, but the frequency of clicks and adsense earnings will be reduced. That said, you have to remember that the Hubpages advert program and adsense earnings will then be coming in simultaneously, instead of you only earning with adsense. So, you need to consider the overall figure. Depending on your subject area and the adverts available for your niche, you may want to try out both of these programs over a period, to see which pays the best for you. Adsense may pay more, but personally I find the combined Hubpages ads program to be a more stable income.
My Experience | Making Money Online With Hupages.com
That all said, I personally love writing here and the community involvement. It is also an excellent place to learn and develop yourself from the comfort of your own home. You can learn new subjects and post questions ... the best part being that the authors here are normally MORE THAN HAPPY to reply in detail. This means that while you are writing and reading, you can also increase your knowledge ... including 'how to make money online'.
The interaction in comments, answers to your questions and learning new things everyday can actually become addictive, especially with those used to struggling with a blog. This is very different to the blogging world, and in my opinion, far easier to become recognized and respected on the web and with search engines. It is really quite easy to make new friends and build your following, so long as you are interactive! This is the side of the site I really love. I enjoy writing, but the feedback, jokes and conversations are what make this worthwhile.
As for earning money, my income seems to be increasing steadily. I am not as active as other hubbers, but I do OK and my content is increasing. It is my honest feeling that the period for ongoing steady earnings seems to be between the 75-150 hubs mark, with quite fair steady earnings kicking in around the 200-300 hubs mark. It will be when these already published hubs have 'matured, possibly 6 months later, but it will come. Hence, if you suddenly publish lots, expect a long delay (it is not always, but on average this is the case). Quality is key, answer a need and use keywords (search terms/phrases that you put in Google) ... then you are sure to make money online with Hubpages! Just don't give up in the first year or two, good things often take time to create.
Is Hubpages a Scam!?
So, is Hubpages a scam? Well, it is all about perspective. As an informative article sharing website, it most certainly IS NOT A SCAM WEBSITE and is a great place to share. Hubpages.com can also be a great place to earn money, so long as you are up for a writing marathon and willing to stick around. Think 1-3 years before it is likely for any decent earnings to start coming in steadily. Yet, once they come in, you have a stable online income! Having been here for 3 years now, I can confirm that it is a good place to write, learn and earn ... just don't try to cheat, as they will catch you (I've seen many members get banned). I hope that answers your questions about Hubpages scam claims.
