End of Year Hubpages Findings Tricks and Tips 2011

Updated on December 15, 2014

I Love To Share My Hubpages Discoveries

Hey everyone, since you are not on skype with me, how else can I share my enthusiasm and excitement about the changes on Hubpages when I find them? Are you noticing these little things or have they always been there? The environment keeps testing my memory and challenges me to move through the forest we call Hubpages.

With so many areas of the network, I'm sure most of us still stick to a routine and don't always venture out to explore the many opportunities out there.

Navigate Hubpages From The Main Page

What I learned today. You can click upon an image shown with the hub article listed on the front page stream of activity and suddenly a new window pops up. This means that you do not move forward to open that individuals hubpage URL. And, after reading, and rating, you simply shut down that little reader window and you're still on the front page.

  • Perhaps someone who is wiser than me can tell me if this is an effective use of the network space regarding SEO, hits to the hub and overall Hubpages ratings on the internet?

Commenting Available After You Close The Pop-Up Window

In this shortcut mode to quickly skim, read and rate Hubpages articles you will not be able to leave a comment. In these cases, you have two choices: Either close out the reader and go to the URL webpage or close the reader and leave a comment on the main page. It feels like Hub Hopping when using this mode of action, where you can also leave a comment, as well as to rate and vote. Bright Red Comment Moderation

The other thing I noticed this week was the special highlighting in RED of the comment moderation tool at the bottom of each hubpage.

In fact, not only can you DENY the posting of a guest comment, you can also MODERATE YOUR OWN COMMENT. Someone please explain the meaning of this? Couldn't we ALWAYS Deny and moderate our comments. Perhaps, this was redesigned to make it more obvious to newbies and older Hubbers, alike, because the staff was receiving SO MANY INQUIRIES.

Opinions | Page Reader Pop-Up Effectiveness of SEO

Will reading the Hubpages via the Pop-Up window contribute to views and SEO ratings and profile scores?

See results

HOT | We have always had the ability to click to a person's profile and view the list of their hubpages. But, this appears to be a new design where readers are attracted to see the HOTTEST of the author's writing directly from the page they are reading.

MAIL | I don't remember seeing the little 'letter' icon to contact me directly via email on all of my hubs in this way before? Perhaps when I first started that was available up under my profile image.

BOOK | This cute little "Bookmark" icon in green reminds you to tick this hub as a reference for the future. I wonder if anyone actually goes back to check their bookmark's?

Motivational Hubpages

Hubpages A Dollar A Day Is Better Than Nothing is a popular article and a topic of discussion. Many people come to Hubpages thinking they will earn the big bucks right at the starting gate. Far from the truth, as in anything, only with time, work and effort will your writing pay off. I wrote this motivational piece to keep our spirits up. Benjamin Franklin has a lot of wisdom to give us in this day and age. debbybruck.hubpages.com/hub/Hupbages-A-Dollar-A-Day-Is-Better-Than-Nothing

Dear Audrey - I'm totally honored by these comments. Isn't something how far Hubpages has evolved and all the members along with the network. The administration makes changes based upon feedback, like the polls above showing the way members move about the website and the features they use the most, find the hardest or most advantageous.

Thus, the outdated poll of bookmarks above shows they have eliminated this feature all together.

Whether people visit the main page can most likely be found in the dashboard analytics, but its also nice to see the breakdown proportions of how people think they visit Hubpages.

Most interesting of all is the "POP-OUT" capability of the front page, which I myself hardly EVER use; although, from time-to-time I will simply post a comment on the front page.

Have a blessed new year and it will certainly be a surprise what we find in 2013. Love, Debby

Debby - I enjoyed these "tricks" and "tips" for 2011 even though it is now 2012 and soon to be 2013. I get inspired when I see how far the administration has come with improved features and always look forward to more.

I've learned so much here since my early days and have much more to learn which excites me.

I love the presentation and graphics in this hub.

They just don't come any better than you, dear Debby! Happy Holidays and Big Blessings in the New Year!

Hello Au Fait ~ That's the way it will always be. The administration wants to build a better mousetrap; or at least improve Hubpages for both the authors and readers. They want more hub love, SEO juice and money rolling in from the advertisements. I noticed that the Hub talks about "bookmarks," which we no longer have available as a feature. Poof! Gone. Blessings, Debby

Hi Millionaire ~ I think everyone knew where to take care of their comments, especially because we receive a notification in our email for each one and a link. I think people did not realize they could stop a comment from posting at any stage past, present of future. I'm still a bit confused about moderating my own comments -- the GRAY button. It does not mean that you can EDIT your comment, it just seems to mean you can also stop that one from posting, as well.

The read more / bookmark / contact icons and placement as elements on the page appear to be new, although the ability has always been there as clicks located under a person's profile image either on a hubpages or only on a person's profile page.

Happy New Year and many successes, Debby

This is helpful, as HubPages is constantly changing. I like that we can view the hubs straight from the home page. I would imagine they would count in the stats, but then the Hubber wouldn't get credit for you seeing the ads. I'm guessing that they would if you looked at them. I didn't know about this option until you pointed it out.

I have seen the read more / bookmark/ contact space, but I am relatively new to HubPages, so it is possible it wasn't there before.

The bright red deny is new. I think it may have come from the fact that people were complaining that they couldn't find new comments to approve quickly.

Hello Kris ~ Pleased to see you here. Hahaha. I forgot to mention that Bookmark feature. I do use it infrequently for something extra special, otherwise it would become very cumbersome. So many marvelous hubs. I see I have asked the question at the top of the page. I will add another poll for folks to check whether they use it or not.

Hi Widlderness ~ Please forgive me, I've forgotten your name. Also, I notice you have written a good number of Hubpages Tutorials like "The Hows and Whys of RSS Feeds on HubPages" http://bit.ly/vrEi9K

I agree Hubpages has come a long way over the past five years. I've only been here 3 years, but long enough to see many changes. Maybe after reading this hub, you may start to visit the main page? Let us know your usual routine, please.

All the best and up, up and away for 2012 on Hubpages. Debby

HP has done a lot to improve the site and I for one am glad to see it. While I may not like or use all of the changes (I seldom visit the main page for instance) the overall effect is a steady improvement.

Hello GoldenBird ~ The many options to liven up your hubpages do not always need to be used. I have my favorites. Basically, the text, photos, videos and polls. I am just learning to use the tables and do like them. I haven't used the quiz option. Sometimes I have entered amazon and ebay, but don't have them set up to make money. I've used the links option, but will reduce that from now on and create my own links and descriptions via the text capabilities.

I have used the RSS feed in the past, but infrequently and don't use the map.

As for the artistry, that is my background as both a visual artist and designer. One of my goals this year is to continue to develop a recognizable style for my pages.

      Thank you so much, Debby

Although I do not use all the capsules and all the features of this website (when did creating poetry require anything more than pen and paper?), but still, I loved this hub.

You should be a painter, or a visual artist to create beautiful hubs as this one above.

..I will definitely watch the video to gain some insight :)

Hello Stephanie ~ I have added Part 2 video for further explanation on commenting and reading from the main page.

As for commenting in the account setting mode, which I call the dashboard, this has also happened to me. I find the best way to handle this is to click the title of the Hubpages and answer directly in the article comment section, rather than the back office. We learn by doing unless someone has given us a demonstration of best practices. Blessings, Debby

I think it's great that you have pointed out these features. Sometime I learn the hard way about how to do things on HubPages. For example, I used to go in and approve all the comments for a day while in my account setting mode. I then realized that when I went back to click the link to comment back to someone all the new approvals were gone. I had to use my partially photographic memory to remember all the hubs that had new comments so I could make sure I responded to everyone. I now know not to do that any more.

      Hello Debby,

      Seasons Greetings.

There have been a number of changes even in the short time I have been on hubpages.

In my view, as long as they leave the current modular system and formats intact, then they can fiddle as much as they like.

I was expecting to find 'how many hits per day is good' but alas there was no info on this, as far as I could see. I was reading it in the preview window, so maybe I missed a link or something?

      Happy New Year
