H.O.W. authentic is your writing?

Updated on February 23, 2013

How authentic are you?

Unable to sleep I returned to my keyboard intently focused on the goal; making money. Then my mind drifted leaving content, SEO, and keywords far behind. Here on Hub Pages I can write whatever I want without the stress of a client’s reaction and I can use any POV that suits me without fear of reprisal. This late night writing gig began as just another content article, a deadline I won’t be fulfilling. Perhaps my mistake was pausing when I used the word authentic. How did I get to this point in my life? It’s almost two in the morning and I’m worrying about a client that’s going to pay me eight bucks? I’ll likely write many more eight dollar articles but not tonight. Even freelance writers aren’t immune to being sidetracked.

“What do you think billybuc, will the world still be here come sunrise without one more content article?"

Two years ago I began the search for my share of the money here in cyberspace.

“Make Money Online” TWO HUNDRED AND SEVENTEEN MILLION results and into the Google box I fell.

How long would it take me to read those articles? If I read really fast, say one minute per article that would be about 40 years. I knew I couldn’t really read that fast so I had now created yet another problem relating to my life expectancy. If only I could have believed the claims of those articles… Honestly I couldn’t and therefore don’t waste my time reading them anymore.

Show me the money!

Legitimately Working from Home

My first step was to find whether there was any truth hidden in all those work from home articles. After several weeks of research I found only three or four companies that I thought might possibly have legitimate paying positions. The only one I can personally vouch for is Alpine Access because I did get a job with them and collect a regular paycheck as promised. If not for the physical limitations that brought me here in the first place I’d probably still be working with them. If you would like to work from home but need a regular paycheck Alpine Access would be my number one suggestion.

Which of the following would best describe you?

My Initial Take on Hub Pages

My next idea was writing. After researching opportunities I chose Hub Pages hoping I’d quickly learn enough about online marketing to go it on my own. I still have to laugh at myself recalling that my original purpose here was all about the money. Before you fill my comment box, I know there are plenty of writers making a lot of money here. Today I consider myself close friends with several writers earning a decent amount on HP. If you are diligent, study the free materials offered in the learning center, and of course write quality hubs, you will make money. Best of all the only investment is your time. Hub Pages will never ask you for your money. Yes, they are a business and will make money off your work but when you invest none and still make some what more could you ask?

Today I Am Rich and Today I Am Wealthy

Prior to the injury that consequently resulted in my spending so much time online, my focus was rarely on anything other than myself. You never would have found me wasting time volunteering at the Nevada Humane Society, commenting on the writing of others, reflecting upon my life, this list could go on and on. I have learned a bit about writing but more importantly I took a step back and learned to redefine wealth with the help of many members of this community. I am extremely confident that as long as I remain here I will always be rich and wealthy. I sincerely thank everyone here on Hub Pages for helping to enrich my life.

Real Wealth and Real Riches!

Most interesting in the writing field thoughts go on and on but if you want to write for money it takes time and for pleasure well that is most enjoyable, meeting the different supporters and to enjoy what you do is so important, in the process you are earning too.

billybuc-Yes, I think I'll give up on the content writing. Not making much and it really takes the pleasure out of writing. Thank you.

      dilipchandra-Thank you for reading.

David, you are a man who walks the same footsteps I walk. If I wrote only those $8 content articles I would quit writing. The job of HP is the relationship I have with so many good people like yourself. Thanks for the mention and keep pouring out the original David in your writing.

The real reward is knowing that other writers read and like what you write.

I've yet to make a penny on Hubpages.

Adsense cancelled my account last year and kept the money, telling me that some mysterious person violated some mysterious rule, in some mysterious land. They called that an 'explanation'.

It was mere pennies a day anyway, so I just let it go.

      Good Hub, David.
