Anyone can make money with Hub Pages but the reality is many sign up and don’t go that extra mile to actually earn their first dollar. This hub is written to commemorate what I call “my success” from that humble beginning. It is no way near the big success stories on Hub Pages. It is very small but I hope you find some useful tips for your own success.

Inspired By 2 Cents

I signed up for a Hub Pages account on 15 November, 2012. The same day, I wrote my first hub which does not get featured on Hub Pages now, meaning it is poorly written and of low quality. I have decided to keep the hub as it is as a reminder of where I began. When I saw my 2 cents earnings at 30 November, I thought to myself. If I can write more, I will certainly increase my earnings. The two cents actually inspired me to write my second hub on 05 December, 2012.

Tip No. 1

If you want to make money on Hub Pages fast, you must consistently write good quality, original content and in accordance with the rules of the site.

$50.94 Earned from 38 Hubs in 4 Months

There are four ways you can earn money writing on Hub Pages. Hub Pages own Ad Program, Google Adsense, E-Bay and Amazon. The table below shows my earnings statistics. Again, it is not much. I am publishing it to encourage myself to keep writing. Sixty percent of my earnings comes from Hub Pages Ad Program. My Amazon earnings are from my specific hubs on organic pillows only. I don't seem to make money from Amazon on general display of products in hubs.

Just Keep Writing

You will only make money if visitors come to your site. If you don't write anything, no one will come. To bring them to your Hub Pages account, research what they are searching for and provide them the information, product or the solution in good quality content. Don't stop, just keep writing. Set yourself goals to at least write one hub a day.

I did that around Christmas and New Year holiday period and wrote 38 hubs. I am now earning from those hubs. The months of February and March, I did not publish any hubs, my bad, I could have increased my earnings.

Tip No. 2

Writing product reviews gives you better chances of earning more from Amazon. Also, if you are writing about a specific niche, display products relevant to that niche. For Amazon, you get paid when someone purchases. With E-Bay, you get paid for clicks.

10,483 Page Views in 4 Months

Getting an e-mail from Hub Pages that my hubs have been viewed 10,000 times was even more exciting.

I write my articles after doing a bit of keyword research and with the aim of getting natural traffic from search results. I use Google External Keyword Tool for my keyword research. On the top left hand side of the keyword tool, I choose "exact" match type (not "broad") to find out the monthly search frequency and how much advertisers are paying to advertise under the the keyword or keyword phrase.

I do not know much about doing back links and other SEO tactics. I only have a blog at Blogger.com that I use to link back to my Hub Pages account. As you can see in the table below, 85% of my traffic comes from Google.

For the 10,000 page views milestone, I am deeply grateful to fellow hubbers and readers who share my hubs on their social networking sites. One such great hubber is eHealer who promoted my hubs on organic healthy pillows that resulted in increased page views and Amazon sales. I also noticed that if you have a good hub, some publishers will publish it on their sites, too.

Tip No. 3

Don't feel bad if your first hub sucks. Read other successful senior Hubbers' hubs to get some inspiration to help you improve. And just keep writing!

Write Search Engine Friendly Content

Google's Panda and Penguin updates and the constant changing of its search engine algorithm is focused on content quality and uniqueness. It is done to weed out duplicate and low-quality content which is considered garbage clogging the system when users search for quality content. This means Google will not be interested in ranking high sites, hubs or articles that have the following:

  • Low quantity, low quality content
  • High quantity, low quality content (with manipulation of SEO and keywords)
  • Duplicate content
  • Keyword stuffing

Here's how you can make your hubs search engine friendly and do well in search results, and avoid getting hit by Panda

  • Content - must be good quality, original, relevant and current
  • User-Friendly - make sure your hubs are simple and easy for users to decipher

I try my best with this one because English is not my native language, but a third language I have to learn. In fact, my daughter told me she's proud of me because writing on Hub Pages has actually helped me improve.

My First Hub Pages Pay

I expect to earn more than $15 in April and get my first payout from Hub Pages in May.

If you are new on Hub Pages, don't get discouraged when you earn only cents per day. Be grateful for whatever amount you earn and just keep writing and improving yourself. The missing link to getting inspired to write more is gratitude.

My aim is to earn $1 per day from all my hubs. I read in one of the forum threads that 300 views per day would earn $1. Such information from experienced Hubbers is useful for beginners like me.

Smart Online Passive Income

The beauty of Hub Pages as an online writing platform where you self-publish your articles is the ability for the writer to earn passive income everyday from a once-only work. I only published my hubs in December 2012 and January 2013 and will be getting paid for that work well into the future. Everyday, I get excited seeing money accumulating in my account. This is what I call smart online passive income.

There are other online writing sites where you get paid upfront for writing articles. The setback for that is that you will sell your articles cheap. You will not be earning passive income for your hard work.

Happy Hubbing!

wow! this is amazing @Kejanny...your success here is fast I must confess. I had been here for over 3 years now, and I can honestly tell you that I haven't earned a dime from Amazon, and none from hubpages ad progromme because I don't have a paypal account, so I declined the invite to join during the onset....but look at you...you are a success, congrats once again, well deserved.

Very interesting! I joined hubpages as a place to write stuff that didn't really fit on my blog. I haven't even applied for adsense yet. But I definitely will once I get to 10 hubs. Thanks for sharing!
