Hub 100 Where Im Going

Updated on October 2, 2011

My 100th Hub

I guess I could have just carried on and kept hubbing but in my own little mind 100 hubs is a milestone for myself.

I know many are thinking that 100 hubs in 18 months isn't really that great. Hell I am even thinking it. However with this hub I am now at 100 and no matter what I feel pretty good about it.

I wasn't sure what to write about. Hell I thought about not even talking about it but then I thought this would make a great hub to go along with my come back hub.

I thought I would talk a little about where I have been and where I am heading in the world of marketing. I will do my best to keep my personal life out of this and just talk about what stands in my future for working online.

So just fill your coffee, beer, vodka, whiskey wine or what ever your drink of choice is, sit back and don't get too bored at what I am about to write.

Where I Have Been

This internet thing can be so confusing, scary, crazy, deceitful and so many other things. I remember years ago when I started online and thought I was going to be a millionaire over night. Well Im pretty sure its obvious that didnt happen.

I tried every single new program that cam out that promised to make me rich over the weekend in my pjs.

No word of a lie I sat down the other day and tried to put a number to the amount of dollars I actually spent online when it came to working online. The closest number I could come up with was about 5 grand. Thats $5000 that could have still been in my bank account.

I am not saying all of what I bought was bad. I have been a part of quite a few things that actually helped me along the way to learn things such as keywords, seo, back linking, articles and so forth and so forth. The honest dollar amount that I actually think I blatantly wasted has to be around $3500.

A lot of good has also come out of my past on the internet as well. Heck in my best times I was putting around $5000 a month in the bank all fr5om earning online.

I had a great partner who will always be a part of my internet success. After our debacle wit eBay everything went down hill including our working relationship. I will always consider Jodie a wonderful person and friend with a great family. However the time came to move on and we are now doing our seperate things. Much of what I know is a as of a direct result of what Jodie taught me so once again thank you Jodie.

I Have Been All Over The Place

It seems that once eBay gave us the boot everything at that point started falling apart.  It seems that at that point I started doing all kinds of things online.  I would start so much and finish nothing.

It seemed like I just couldnt find my place.  I would find something that would look interesting, try it for a while and then move on to the next thing.  This seemed to be happening over and over.  Hell it kind of felt like I was once again a newbie.  It felt like I would never get anywhere.

Then it seemed like I had given up entirely.  It didnt look like I was going to do another thing online except maybe play games and scroll through Facebook.

I still thought about my online stuff everyday but couldnt bring myself to do anything about it.  It seemed I was giving up.

Then some changes happened in our lives and it was exactly what I needed to get off my butt and get working again.

Then Came Renovations

I finally decided it was time to get back working online again. I was again excited which hadnt happened in a long long time.

I decided that if I was going to get going again online I needed to have a path and a plan.

I knew and do know that articles are what I do and love to do best so all my plans needed to surround themselves with articles.

I knew I had to take a deep breath and start cleaning up my affiliate life on and off line.

I got my new home office set up in our new condo.  Dam I love it and feel good working in it.  Then it was time to go online and try and clean up any messes I had out there.  Meaning it was time to shut down some stuff, put away some stuff and just figure out how I was going to start over from scratch or at least as close as possible to that.

Now it was time to clean my computers.  The first thing I must talk about is the new home computer my wife bought for me for my home office.  It is a 26 inch Acer that is completely wireless and all touch screen.  This thing is modern and completely refreshing to use on a daily basis.

Then I took both my laptops and had them completely wiped and had the original settings done once I uploaded the original software and such.  Every single computer I had was also starting from new.  Now I had to focus on what I was going to do.  I decided I would focus on niches I love instead of niches that are suppose to make great money.  Im tired of writing about stuff I have no clue on and don't want to have a clue on.  That is why this time around my internet is going to be so much more fun.

So What Will My Path Be

I have put a lot of time and thought into what I am going to be doing online.  I now know the time to get serious has come back.

I tried writing about a lot of things and even made some money at it.  However I just dont want to do that anymore.  I just want to focus on what I love.

So let me tell you what I love and what I will be focusing on.  Some are money makers and some will likely never make me much.

Also some may think I'm an idiot for talking about my niches but at the end of the day people are going to read them anyways.

So below I will talk about the niches I plan on writing about.  Of course Im not going to talk about keywords or anything like that.

My Niches

So most of you know I love fishing and everything to do about it. For the most part I am limited to Freshwater fishing because I live in Alberta Canada and its the only fishing I do.

I have been studying a bit about other types of fishing but I really have to be sure of myself before venturing off into things Im not sure of.

The fishing niche is one that I could write about on a daily basis for the next 20 years. It is also a niche that I absolutely love. In fact it is probably my favorite niche that I will ever write about.

There are a few good ways to monetize to niche and I will be doing that. However feel free to just take the information and run with it. A terrible day of fishing is better then a great day at work anytime.

The next niche I want to write about is frugal living, saving money, spending smart and all that sort of topic. I have been on both sides of the spectrum which in my opinion helps me be able to write about this stuff.

Its all about saving money these days and I would love to be the person to help with that. Along with that niche I do want to write some self help hubs as well. Stuff like anger management is where I am leading. I feel these are very easy and enjoyable for me to write.

Of course a big one I will be writing about is the smoking niche. I am dedicated in getting people to quit and really want to work hard at getting people to not start.

I see the difference in my life as a non smoker and I want everyone to experience that difference. Please believe me when I say If I can quit smoking pretty much anyone can.

The next niche is one Im certain will not make me much money but it is a passion. I have worked in the oil fields of Canada for 20 years now and have loved every minute of it. I truly want to write a lot more about the oil patch.

I havent quite figured out the avenue I will take in this yet but I am sure I will notice it when the time comes, which is fairly soon.

I may also have a few surprise niches I end up writing about. However I dont ever want to stray and write about stuff that doesnt interest me anymore.

Last but not least I will always try and write helpful articles about working online. I know with time permitting I could write thousands of these types of articles. I do love article marketing so thats what many of my articles will be focused on. However I will have many others on other topics such as SEO and back linking.

The biggest thing I want to accomplish with my marketing online is educating people so they understand a lot of what I do costs me very little. There are certain things I do pay for like hosting and domain names. If its a tool and it works Im okay paying.

I just want people to stay away from the so called programs that promise over night riches. I want people to ask me questions before they purchase something. I have always gone out of my way to help people find answers about products they are looking to buy.

In Conclusion

As I hit publish on this Hub I do sense a feeling of accomplishment.

I feel good about my new outlook and I know the next 100 will come a lot quicker.

There are a ton of people here that I absolutely adore. I will not mention a single name in fear of missing some one.

However some of the people I have met here are second to none in anything.

I look forward to writing many more hubs and meeting many new people. I just wish some day I could be a role model to some one new like many of you were to me.

So for now its time to hit publish and move on in the new stage of my life. I am glad it does involve Hubpages.

See you in the forums.

Dale, thanks for sharing your thinking at this milestone. And congratulations on 100! It seems natural, after working at something like HubPages for a while, to take a break, reflect, and maybe re-invent ourselves. Best wishes with your new focus.

Congrats on this milestone, and the introspection that came with its attainment. We all need to sit down and clear our minds, rethink our journey and plot the next leg from time to time. Lynda
