Hub 348: In Praise of Former Hubber WilliamRaymond

Updated on June 14, 2010

In Praise of Former Hubber WilliamRaymond

Hubbers come and go, but few leave as lasting an impact as my buddy WilliamRaymond. Don't bother to click on the link; evidently he has taken his ball and gone home.

Many writers on HubPages can be credited/blamed for the dreck that I seem to be able to crank out on an almost daily basis. Hal Licino, Shadesbreath, drbj, breakfastpop, Stan Fletcher, The Old Firm, dabeaner, and have each contributed in subtle ways to make me the hubber I am today. Even RyanKett has been nice to me sometimes.

I'm really gonna miss WilliamRaymond.

What Happened?

I don't know what happened. Perhaps he got banned from something and it ticked him off enough to make him pull all his hubs and close his account. Maybe he won the Nigerian Lottery. I hope to someday learn what caused his sudden exodus, but for now all I can do is speculate. If any of you have an inkling, please please let me know.

Another Hubber Goes Down. So What?

Life goes on, yes? Another hubber will step up and fill the void left by my virtual friend. On the other hand, who will proofread my exceedingly insipid Movie Spoilers? Who will laugh at my self-serving heavy-handed get-rich-quick parodies?

Ok, drbj will take over those chores.

Anyway, it's always tough to cultivate a long-distance friendship, then have it yanked away without warning. Please allow me some latitude as I reminisce about just a few of the magical hubs that comprised WilliamRaymond's body of work...

Ever been to Spain?

No? Ever been to Oklahoma? WilliamRaymond took us on a magical tour of the American Rock band 3 Dog Night in his hub titled "Momma Told Me Not to Come." I'm pretty sure he cribbed most of it from Wikipedia, but certainly his twisted version of the lyrics to Joy to the World must have originated somewhere between his ears. I never let him forget that.

Not all of it made sense

The guy had writing chops, sure, but even the best of us type out a dud now and then. WilliamRaymond's effort to garner search engine favor with the aptly titled "Keywords: Use Keywords and more Keywords to Increase Your Keyword Ranking" scored exactly zero points with SEO aficionados. I recall that he emailed me shortly after he published the hub; he was incredibly excited because he was convinced that he was on his way to Internet Riches. None of us had the heart to tell him that even Google algorithms have some taste. The hub rocketed to a hubscore of 51, then plummeted to 25, where it languish for months. WilliamRaymond soon gave up his risky schemes to manipulate the search engines and returned to his first love: pure writing.

Thanks for the memories, pally. You'll be sorely missed.

Another one bites the dust
Another one bites the dust
And another one gone
And another one gone
Another one bites the dust
Hey, I'm gonna get you too
Another one bites the dust

I clicked anyway. (Like do not touch "wet paint".) As you said, nothing there. I did not know of him. It is a bummer when a friend -- real or virtual -- disappears.

Sorry for the loss of your friend. At least he took time to delete his hubs it's been seven weeks since greatAmerican went missing without a trace.
