Hubpages Interviews - First Edition

Updated on September 18, 2013

Description

Hi everyone! This is the first edition of Hubpages Interviews where I previously worked with another hubber and together we interviewed hubbers giving the community a better insight on who they are :). With their permission we are posting these great interview's hoping it brings excitement and the community a better feel.

Interview with writinglover:

Hi writinglover how are you today!?

Hello, Poetic Philosophy! I am doing very well, thank you for asking. Thank you so much for the interview!

What made you start at hubpages?

I started at Hubpages because I love to write and I wanted to share my passion with other people. At first I didn’t really want to because I prefer to keep to myself, but my stepmom made a point that I hardly ever shared anything with anybody and, thus, I decided to take a risk and put my stories out there into the world.

I see you post a lot of stories and poems, what's the story behind that?

I post a lot of stories because I started out writing stories. I’ve always had an active (maybe overactive) imagination. I started out with anime stories because that was all I knew and I wanted to incorporate those ideas together. As I got further into my mini-career, I decided to change that all up and take a different direction. What I mean by that is that I wanted to do some stories that took place in the real world, like Denver, Colorado, for example.

As for poetry, I just started writing poetry at the beginning of the year. I was kind of upset (I won’t go into details, mind you) with somebody and I decided to write my first poem. I have to admit that it wasn’t all that great since it was my first time traversing into the poetry realm but as time progressed and I practiced more, I really got into it and I’ve loved every minute of it ever since.

Do you believe it's therapeutic to write?

I definitely believe that it is really therapeutic to write. In fact, that’s how I got back into writing. I had started writing as a sophomore in high school (and I still have an incomplete story from that time) before I was uprooted from Louisiana and had to move north. I tried to keep writing throughout my high school career and I did until tragedy struck and lost one of my classmates in a shooting accident. It wasn’t until my sophomore year at the University of Nebraska—Lincoln that I got back into writing. An English professor that taught “Introduction to Rhetoric” during the summer assigned us our final assignment and we were allowed to write about anything we wanted just so long as it applied to one of the essays we had written. Thus, my very first hub on childhood abuse and neglect was born.

What makes you continue to keep writing for hubpages?

The one thing that keeps me going with Hubpages is my love for the hubbers who support me in all that I do. They are very really friendly and I try to stay in touch with them, even if I am on break or not, as much as possible, whether it’s participating in forums or commenting on their hubs. I just don’t want to break that contact. Plus, I like to post occasional poems just to try and keep active on HP.

If you could say one thing to the community of hubpages what would it be?

If there was one thing I had to say to the community of hubpages, it would just keep on hubbing! If you love something, just keep on going with it no matter what! Thanks again for the interview!

Interview with LeanMan:

Hi LeanMan thanks for taking the time to do this interview, how are you today?

I am fine thank you, I am always fine as I have a very positive outlook on life..

How did you first hear of hubpages?

I read a blog about making money online (personal blog of Lissie here on HP) while I was researching business ideas for when I was going to "retire" to the Philippines after working in Saudi Arabia (I am from the UK). I followed several links to other blogs and started researching. At the time I had no idea about writing online and was looking at setting up online stores/selling through ebay/ etc.. But it seemed like an "easy" option, i did my research, realized that a lot of what I was reading was BS and people trying to sell me snake oil but decided to give it a try. I started with a blogger blog and with Hubpages which had turned up in my general research as well as squidoo. I wrote several pages on each and I found that I found HP the easiest to use and the most successful by a long way.

What made you pursue it?

I actually started writing on HP while I was still in Saudi to get ready for my move and to see if it would work. It was the success that I had at HP that encouraged me to continue and pursue writing and affiliate marketing etc online. I left Saudi with a nice amount of cash, bought some property with my wife in the Philippines but I needed to have another source of income if I was going to stay here long term without working for anyone else (you cannot get a wage here that will pay at western levels!)

For the users who don't know you how would you describe your personality?

Always happy and enjoy life!! I have been described many different ways; some say I am a complete and utter Bast*!& as I always speak my mind and tell the truth even if people do not want to hear it. Others say I am so laid back that my head drags on the floor.

I see you are active in the forums of hubpages and give great descriptive insights, what leads you to doing this?

Boredom... I like to share... I have nothing to lose by telling people what I see and what I know, if it benefits others then I am happy.

If you could give hubber's a piece of advice what would it be?

Don't spit into the wind is a good piece of advice that I always try to heed, otherwise; stop believing everything that you read. You need to stop following all of what the out of date "gurus" are telling you about how to game the system and approach it from a completely different angle. What does the reader really want and how is google going to know if you are providing it?Also; don't kid yourself into believing that just because something is written in perfect grammar and has original pictures that it is going to get millions of visitors. The internet is not a popularity contest; if no one is searching for your subject you get no visitors. If there is long established even medium quality competition you will not rank and thus still get no visitors. You can't just write the same as everyone else and chase the same visitors as everyone else to sell ipad covers and video games! You have to be different and make a name for yourself in your own area.Writing online is not a get rich quick scheme, you are not guaranteed anything, nor are you entitled to anything just because you did something that you feel is great! You need to work hard and you need a little luck also..

How are you going to carry on your day?

I am off to play with my son who is almost 2 years old. We will spend this afternoon playing in the mall. I love to be able to spend time with my family and working online gives me that flexibility. (But you still have to put the hours in!)

      Hi PoeticPhilosophy,

This is a great start to what will be a very successful series, I'm sure. Well done for putting the time into these interviews, the questions were well-worded. I got interviewed by Ben so I'm looking forward to the next interview! Because all the HP community needs to know about this series of interviews, I think this hub deserves a share. Voted up and sharing!
