I Want You to Meet Love Doctor926… the sweet Marlene
On Saturday Feb. 2nd 2013, I, Deborah Brooks-Langford, got to meet the sweetest and the most down to earth hubber Love Doctor, aka Marlene.
What a great time we had!
She flew all the way from Miami, Florida to see me in Birmingham, Alabama at the Authors Expo, my book signing.
I am so honored.
The Authors Expo was so special.
Here I am selling books writing my Hancock and I look up and what did I see?
Ms Marlene... Our own Love Doctor.... with her good friend Omar.
I was so excited that after a year of corresponding and reading each other hubs a hubber that I adore was standing in front of me.
Oh my, I was so blessed!
Cajun here we come!
We just had to eat Cajun!!!
Afterwards we all went to eat at the Cajun Crab and Broil.
Lots of Crabs and Cajun Shrimp and lots of Oysters sliding down our throats….
Wow we were there to eat some stuff!!!
MMMMM so good.
Friends for life!
We decided to always be friends, in fact I have decided sometime this year I will take a trip to Miami to see Marlene: she has promised to take me site seeing.
Hey, I need to call Anthony Bourdain from the Layover to meet us and take us to all the most awesome restaurants. Hee Hee.
Famously blue and bright sites to be seen, is Miami..
Where there is a a lot of water and beach with lots of bodies with little bikinis. With Cruise ships sliding pass your windows with boiling heat and lots of fun.
Oh Yes Marlene, I am ready to come see you! It is too cold here.
How awesome will that be?!!
So guess what? I had to interview the most famous Marlene, our one and only “Love Doctor”.
Finally after getting her to sit still I began the questions:
“Marlene, tell us where are you from?”
“Debbie, I am originally from Miami, Florida. Born and raised of Cuban parents. I have lived in Miami, Florida my entire life. I live in a nice home in a good residential area with my parents and miniature Doberman pincher.”
“Dear friend, tell us how long have you been writing?”
“Debbie, I have been writing for over ten years now.”
“Wow Marlene ten years that’s awesome....
"tell us where does your inspiration come from?”
“Debbie, inspiration comes to me in many ways. For me, inspiration is part of that passion drives me to do what I want to do. I find that music stimulates my creativity. When I meditate, all sorts of fresh ideas and emotions flow like waves. I am more passionate when I am angry, frustrated and even sad. I am driven when I am happy and full of love. The emotions can be good or bad, but pain is my greatest motivator to keep on going despite the challenges, yields and detours that are presented. Strong emotions allow me to vent yet creatively find an outlet where I can express my thoughts and feelings down on paper.”
“Creativity and passion come to me in dreams. Most of my inspiration comes from my own life experiences. As a passionate and romantic person, I often dream of watching a majestic sunset and horseback riding on the beach. I am a visual writer with a vivid imagination. Fairy tale dreams and romantic novels offer a rich source of inspiration for me. I love the challenge of writing a fiction or short story using pictures as story prompts. It's interesting to see where my imagination could take me. I am also passionate about my job and helping others/ volunteering or doing things for a good cause.”
“My goodness Marlene, wow what a great answer! I have a few more questions for you, who are your favorite authors?”
“Debbie, my favorite authors are William Shakespeare, Robert Fitzgerald, Danielle Steele, Stephen King, Robert Frost, Harper Lee etc etc.”
“Marlene, my friend, of all the things in the world.... what do you like to write about the most?”
“Debbie, I love to write on health related topics, current events, dating and relationships, entertainment food and dining, product reviews. At this time, I am interested in the fiction genre.”
“Okay Marlene, what do you want to do in your life what is your goals; and do you have any books in the works, or published?”
“Debbie, I want to publish a book on my life. This is one of my possible realistic short term goals for this year. No books published as of yet.”
“Marlene, what kind of writing do you like to write the best?”
“Debbie, narrative writing- personal or fictional experience based on real or imagined event...
Descriptive and informative
Creative writing style...
I can write newspaper articles
I also write affidavits and assist attorneys with writing legal documents.”
“Marlene, what are your plans for the future?”
“Debbie, I am working towards a JD degree. I want to write a book on my life, I have been thinking of getting a job as a freelancer writer or starting my own business.”
“Just a few more questions Marlene, what is your advice to all the struggling and new writers and hubbers?”
“Debbie, my advice for struggling writers would be to read, read and read. In order to become a good writer, you must learn the proper rules of English grammar. Verbs are necessary components of every sentence. Learn how to use them correctly. Keep your sentences simple. Have someone edit your work and don't get discouraged. Even best-selling authors make mistakes. Plus, it's important that you attend writing workshops.”
“Marlene, thank you for a great answer, I am going to hire you to edit my books. Wow! Tell me Marlene the most fun thing you would love to do?”
“Debbie, the most fun thing I would love to do would be to go on a 12 day cruise to Europe with a special someone on our honeymoon or go on a two week vacation/ tour to Paris, France, Rome and Italy with single girlfriends and enjoy real Italian food, drink lots of red wine, experience art and culture, meet new people and shop till you drop..”
“Sweet friend Marlene, I want to go with you on the cruise, and shop till we drop... hee hee..Of course your new husband might not like that, but I could be the single girlfriend. Lol. One last question, tell me some other things about you that people would never guess!”
“Debbie there is some things that are better left unsaid. Lol. Thanks Debbie for this awesome interview!”
Here are some of Marlene’s favorite bands and singers that Marlene has picked out for our listening pleasure.”
“Debbie, I love the following.”
Boys II Men, The Depeche Mode, Bruce Springsteen, BonJovi, Luther Vandross, Billy Joel, Neil Diamonds, Air Supply, Journey, Foreigner, The Commodores, Peabo Bryson & Roberta Flach, Celine Dion, The Bee Gees, Barbara Streisand, Diana Ross & Lionel Richie, Marvin Gaye, Barry White, Paul Benatar.
I’ll make love to you
We laughed..."That’s a long list and the ones I can think of from the top of my head.”
Music, Music, Music!
“I like country, Jazz, Latin, classical rock, 80s music, house music, Romantic lyrics, wedding songs.”
Love is like a Battlefield
