I Would Be Adolf Hitler.

Updated on December 2, 2012

The face of a monster

Quantum Leap
Quantum Leap

If I could be anyone in history I would choose to be Adolf Hitler. I would choose to be one of the most hated figure in history only to change history.

I studied the Holocaust extensively for a short documentary and paper for a college class. In the process I interviewed people who were in concentration camps and even a German who was married to a scientist working for the Nazi's near Berlin. I learned much during this time and was horrified at the personal accounts of tragedy and the callousness of my fellow human beings.

There were many people who contributed to the torture and deaths of millions of people. Soldiers, scientists, greedy citizens, even corporations cashed in on the business of body disposal, and business was good. It all led back to one man, however; it all started with Adolf Hitler. If I could travel through time and inhabit the body of someone from history, perhaps like the protagonist of the T.V. show Quantum Leap, and I could pick the person, I would choose Hitler without a doubt.

I would insure the Holocaust never happened and the horrible suffering and murder of millions of innocent men, women, and children would not be a part of human history. Germany would never have invaded Poland and instead I could have used the influence and power of Hitler and Germany to form a powerful political and military alliance in an attempt to persuade Stalin of Russia to abandon his attacks on his own people.

There are many other people from the pages of history whose shoes I would gladly fill just to witness the history which surrounded them. Julius Caesar, Marco Polo, Leonardo Da Vinci, Edward the Black Prince, King Richard Coeur de Lion, Saladin, and Aristotle are among the many I could choose. There are also many other figures who have caused misery and woe throughout history. If I wanted to change history to stop atrocities from happening, I could have chosen Josef Stalin, Pol Pot, or Mao Zedong among many others. None have left such a lasting evil stain upon the world as Adolf Hitler has.

The legacy of Adolf Hitler has survived well beyond his death and his dark and ugly ideology has permeated present society. Neo-Nazi skinheads, the KKK, The Aryan Brotherhood, various biker groups, and certain racist Christian based religious organizations have based their core beliefs on Hitler's or used his ideas in one form or another. Some of society's worst criminals such as Charles Manson embrace Hitler's ideals. Many of these organizations commit or have committed cruel acts of racist violence all in the name of Hitler. For one single man to have created such a lasting negative impact on the world is almost hard to comprehend. How could anyone if given the chance, pass up the opportunity to change all of that? To erase all the pain and suffering caused, to erase that evil from our history and the world which was the result of one solitary individual? I couldn't, that's why I would choose to be Hitler.

Authors Note: As a humorous aside, if I was stuck in Hitler's body I definitely would shave that stupid little mustache and change that ridiculous Alf Alfa hairstyle.

Haha, thank you Sparklea. I appreciate your comment! I think if most people were stuck in his body the world would have been better! I also think most people would have got rid of the 'stache as well, lol.

Thank you Jennuh, you got me! I did make it misleading on purpose. That is cool you knew I wouldn't be doing something horrible, lol. thanks!

Wow what a clever, meaningful answer. I love how you made the title so misleading, people read it they expect to be thoroughly pissed off I'm sure. I had more faith in you than that and knew you would have had a unique and interesting explanation for such a title. I particularly loved the part where you speak about all the great people you could have been but changing these tragedies is the most honorable idea. Great hub, you are so interesting!

Yeah snigdhal, there could have very well been another Hitler type person but it probably would not have been half as bad as the things which happened directly because of Hitler!

      p.s. Happy Birthday!

      C M ,

It would be brilliant if someone else was Adolf Hitler ( one good choice would be a free-thinking non religious all embracing tree hugger :O ,maybe .. ). I have not researched Hitler extensively though I've done a fair bit 'o' reading about him .

IF you were Hitler ,Hitler may not have been a baddie :) ..but I do think there would have been another 'Adolf type person ' , power hungry racist with no regard for human life .

Sometimes the course of history may look like it took turns because of a singular being but if you believe in 'destiny ' or a wierd twisted balance that the universe seeks than everything that happens has to happen :) .Just thinking ofcourse .

p.s. I unfortunately share my birth day with that evil b****** .

Margal9, I will probably never fully understand how a whole country could go mad, but I also wonder what he could have accomplished were he not insane and evil. Yes, I guess the only good thing he did was to ruin that mustache style forever, haha.

Thank you UnnamedHarald, for some reason Hitler popped into my head when I thought of historical figures and I immediately thought of changing what he did. I was a little wary at first, just writing the words 'I would be Adolf Hitler' made me cringe, but I felt strongly that I would make that choice if given the chance so I had to do it!

Awesome response! I have also studied Hitler extensively, only to try and grasp how this could have occurred in modern society. I never was able to grasp it of course, but learned so much in the endeavor. Imagine what the world would be like had he used his charisma for good instead of evil!

(Plus, that foolish mustache made him look ridiculous!)

When I saw your answer to "who would you be..." was Adolph Hitler, I thought "Oh boy, here we go-- a troller". In fact, your choice was brilliant. I certainly never gave a thought of turning around history by being a bad guy and changing his choices. Congratulations. Voted up and interesting.
