Ideas for Blog Website Merchandise
I was enjoying writing on hubpages so much that I was in work and I was wondering to myself whether Hubpages had any merchandise that I could own to show how much I loved them. Obviously I have surfed through the whole Hubpages site and not found a section which displays anything like this so I decided I would sketch a few of my own ideas and dedicate a hub to it. Before I get any comments with people waving their arms about me having permission to do this, I would like to state that I raised questions in the forum and 'PaulDeeds' administrater said it would be fine as long as I was using my ideas just to illustrate a hub and not actually selling anything.
the majority of my sketches were T-shirt designs, but I also thought of other things the Hubpages team could produce, these included: a hubpages car-freshener magic tree(logo- shaped), keyring, pens, coffee mug, and coaster. These are just the cost effective Ideas I thought of. There could be other forms of promotion such as a screensaver or bumper stickers.
The first t-shirt idea I sketched(Above) is relatively simple and I thought was quite post-modernist, with the logo incorporated just under the arm and becomes part of a stylish design rather than just free advertising. The website address could be written across the back of the t-shirt for that purpose.
I chose the cap, maybe being a little biased because it is more suited to younger people in a fashion context. The overall design i believe is stylish, having an abstract section of the original logo ascending from the base of the cap, maybe this could be embroided on for the quality aspect. I think it has an urban feel to it and would appeal to the many young people using the site, in turn I believe this would attract more members to the site because it would be seen at nightclubs etc.
Maybe this design was a bit eccentric, it was a simple sketch for a urban styled 'graffiti' design in order to promote the opportunity of expressing your thoughts on Hubpages to young people. If I had more time I would add colour to my designs and produce them using Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop, however I am in between changing computers and haven't installed my programs as of yet. I would also produce alot more variety of designs including photographs to further illustrate how my designs would appear on models or in everyday life.
Finally, I thought a good design for all us computer nerds out there would be to include the iconic 80's style gaming imagery of a keyboard to give some indication of what hubpages is about. I was inspired to design this one based on the branding for the TV show 'the I.T crowd' aired on the british TV channel 'Channel 4'.
Having explained my reasons for hand sketches, I know the quality of the last sketch could be slightly better, but I am pleased with the overall designs and layout of this hub because I think it makes for entertaining and original writing on the site. This is going to be an on going study of mine and Paul Deeds has mentioned in the forum that James at the hubpages team is working on a new I.D for the site himself.
