99 Problems : It Ain't Over Till Its Over... Last Words 2 Everyone On HubPages
I Got 99 Problems But A Check Ain't One
Sometimes there is a calm before the storm, but you rarely recognize it in the midst of it. This was originally going to be my swan song to all of the friends, enemies and fans that I have made on this weird little sector of the WorldWideWebster called HubPages. I had been through enough as a writer...how about a recap for those of you who don't know the story.
Reader's Digest version 1.0 : It was almost two years ago that I joined the ranks of writing on the Hubs. It was quite a great thing, I had nearly two hundred plus hubs. Then what the **ck ended up happening, I got kicked off Google for no apparent reason, and was never given any explainations.
Next step : I leave my work on HubPages for the fans and move on to online journalism writing. I get picked up by Examiner.com, I tell them that I want to skip the standard journalistic titles, I want to be Phoenix Paganism Examiner. I get the gig. Kewel. In 120 day I write 180 articles. Then guess what, my prior felony record screws me out of it when my background check takes 120 days instead of the usual 90. Well that sucks, but you dust yourself off. Oh and FYI, if that happens to any of you on Examiner...they keep your content online, but allow you no legal recourse to recover it, so I guess it is just URL resume material, right? Plagiarism is illegal, but keeping my content permanently is not. Hmmm Amerikkka.
Third Stage : I move forward and join up with Associated Content. I write almost 200 articles in 150 days, including one called Patriotic and Pagan in America that generates several thousand views daily for six months. I start writing very topical information about things like the hacker group Anonymous, which I will brag...I was hip to the Paypal attack last year, I had an online expose about their links to the Cypherpunks and other older hacker orgs from the way back machine, my article was online within a half hour of the first CNN reports. Not bad for a little ole Phoenix boy. But guess what, once again out of nowhere I am kicked off, no explanations. But it is funny while every news organization in America is calling the Anonymous attacks a cyberwar. I use the original term from the Cypherpunks day InfoWar. Two days after I am ousted from Associated Content, guess what I hear on CNN. ' The Anonymous InfoWar continues...." Yeah sure, I guess they finally caught up with their research. Hmmmm United Stateisans.
Fourth Reich : I cover other topics, I start a blog counting down the Mayan calendar 800 days before it ends. I figure I everybody will be capitalizing on the 2012 inevitability and jumping on the bandwagon soon enough. Might as well try to be a early harbinger of the good dope stuff first. I am forced to post on minor league sites like Trinod and Buskia to try to make money, I monetize my blogs with Adbrite and Chikita instead of the biggies that will not allow my content. Then like the little literary sketch artists falling in line, Buskia drops me due to a Google goggles conflict of interest. Blogger skates back and forth twice on a similar conflict, but I have no Google Ads running. Oh but questionable content. Blah blah blah. Meanwhile I decide screw this, I am gonna start making some money the good old fashioned way.
Fifth Elemental : Well when the chips go south, great writers have always turned into Ghost writers. So I joined Textbroker. I won't lie, I have made more there in over six months, than all the sites that humped my assets off their webpages. It is good money, and I know that I can see my writing on major webpages, news orgs, technical journals, travel blogs, I even wrote one of the bigger Steve Jobs articles that many of you probably read since his death / RIP St. Jobs. Well things have been on the upswing and I have spent my time developing my social media web presence. 1200 + fans on Facebook, 500 or so on MySpace and returning to past friends like HubPages to reestablish my connections. Cause I know in my heart, we writers owe everything to the amazing sonic vibration that the fans evoke in our telepathic sine waves. We live in psychic dependency without your rubber hubber love bombs, I bow before all of you that support the future and my tiny heart in it. And when that was just enough, I was happy again. The earth cracked open under me and a karmic wheel spun my direction cosmically...
My Mom's Birthday : On my moms birthday, I have an amazing thing happen. Examiner writes me and wants me to return as Phoenix Paganism Examiner. Apparently my old work is starting to be more valuable in a commodity sense. They want me back to cover more esoteric events for the 2012 year now, and have not had luck finding a realistic replacement. Huh? A week later, Associated Content is still little snitches, but Yahoo is now their big Daddy. Yahoo invites me back. Well...Hmmm. Still on the fence about that one. But then almost two years later. Google goes back and forth for two weeks out of the blue, but now one day before the Hub Patron of the Arts Contest begins, I am reinstated, all my blogs, all my websites, both Examiner.com and Associated Content are all monetized through Google safely. It has been over a week and all is well. And now I am finally making money on HubPages again. Plus I still am making several hundred or more a week on Textbroker.
99 Problems : I still hesitate to believe in most of this that has happened, I will probably be leery of Examiner enough not to give them trust for some time, and I doubt I will ever fully trust Associated. Even HubPages, cool as all the admins are, never an explanation and noone ever went to bat for me, as far as I know. But I asked my mom what I should do? What was her opinion?
She said there are two things to consider. One is, how many people ever get banned from websites and then get asked back to write in the capacity they were kicked off for, that has to be some kind of amazing feat of karmic writing comeback. Second is, if you are in it to be a writer, you can never turn down the opportunity to write.
Lets repeat that one from my white lunar wizard of a mom.
If you are in it to be a writer, you can never turn down the opportunity to write.
I think that says it all for me kids...but I have learned something from my first rants to all of you out there. If you keep powerful, kick doors down, do not fignt the power, but be the power...something will attatch itself to you. If you get knocked down, jump all the way off the cliff, do not let the world put you on a sideline bench. Forget your goals, forget your dreams, be everything that the world says you cannot, they are just vampires. It may take till you give up completely to manifest, but the beautiful sacred chanting is suddenly clear when you enter the eye of the storm. Be an ever present, ever chanting Agent of Clam...you can survive anything. But never, never, never give up. No matter how many problems bring you down.
Remember to Keep on Hubbing.
Keep on writing and It Ain't Over Till It's Over.
