What is the difference between Google Adsense and Google Adwords?

Updated on February 1, 2013

Google Adsense is Free!

Stop paying Google!

I get contacted daily by people trying to make money from their websites. One question that I always ask them is "Do you want Google Adsense Ads on your Website?" This question confuses some people and return say to me: "I already have a Google Account." Many people get confused by Google Adsense and Google Adwords.

I am here to tell you that there is a big difference between the two programs. Many writers here on Hubpages already know the difference between the two Google programs. What is the difference between Adsense & Adwords?

Google Adsense is a Free program powered by Google that allows publishers to sign up and create Google Ads for Free and place them on their websites. These ads may or may not receive clicks from your Website visitors. You will earn money per click. Make sure you have enough text in your web pages to help Google approve your account and determine the type of ads that should be displayed on your web pages. These ads are developed by Google Adwords advertisers.

Google Adwords allows businesses and Website owners the ability to advertise on publishers websites. Google charges advertisers from Google Adwords per click on their Ad campaign. So if you want to pay Google to advertise your Business, you need to signup for a Google Adwords account. If you want to earn money by Google Ads, you must sign up for a free publisher account at Google Adsense.

Make sure you read the terms and conditions of both Google programs. Your business can benefit from both programs. Just remember, Adsense is Free and Adwords is not Free.
