Make Money Writing Online On Hubpages

Updated on January 28, 2015

Would you like to make money writing online?

Is it possible to make money online? yes it is!

Hubpages is an amazing way to get started and it could be a nice side income (or for some people full income) for writing about your passions and interests!

What is Hubpages?

Hubpages is an ad sharing revenue website where you can sign up for free and start writing articles about anything you want!!

It's really easy: you sign up, set up your profile and start writing articles (that here are called Hubs). Is it too good to be true? Absolutely not! You obviously need to put in effor in order to get good money, but the awesome thing is that it's completely up to you!

  • You can write as many Hubs as you like,
  • You can write about anything you want,
  • You can promote your Hubs as much as you like (share on Facebook, twitter, pinterest, yummly or other websites).

How do you make money?

As I said, Hubpages is a sharing revenue website, this means that they provide the platform and the ads for you, you provide the content, and the revenue will be split between you and them (60% to you, 40% to them). It sounds fair to me. You don't have to worry about this, because when you visit your dashboard, your earning will be already what you actually have made, your 60%. The money you will make on Hubpages is completely up to you, it depends on views you get on your Hubs, clicks on Adsense Ads and purchases on Amazon and Ebay through your affiliate links.

There are 5 ways to make money on Hubpages and you can use all 5 of them combined:

  • Hubpages Ads Program: you can opt in really easily and you will earn a certain amount of money per 1000 views.

  • Adsense: you can use your own adsense account to put ads on your Hubs and earn a certain amount of money every time somebody click on those ads.
  • Amazon: you can join the Amazon program with only 1 click. Then you can start adding Amazon capsules in your Hubs about products that could be related with what you are talking about in the article. If anybody clicks on those ads and then buy anything from Amazon in the following 30 days, you get a commission!
  • eBay: same as Amazon, you can add capsules with related products to your Hubs and you will get a commission if anybody clicks and then buy.
  • Referral Program: you can also refer other people to Hubpages, if they sign up using your referral link, you will get a percentage of what they make (10%) forever!!! Don't worry they will still get their 60%.

You will get paid by Paypal, so you need to provide a valid Paypal account that will be linked to your Hubpages account. The minimum paiment is $50 so, once your reach the $50 threshold, you know you will be paid at the end of the month. If you don't reach the $50 threshold, your earning will keep accumulating month after month until you reach $50.

What Can I Write?

This is really the fun part! You can write about absolutely anything. A good tip is to write about evergreen topics so that the Hub will always be relevant and will keep making you money even after months you wrote it.

To give you an idea of the many different topics you can write about I am going to share some of my Hubs that are complitely different topics:

So, as you can see, the possibilities are endless... have you just been on holiday and want to review the place? Great, write a Hub! Are you a great cook and want to share your recipes? Great! Get cooking, take a picture and publish the recipe as a Hub! Are you passionate about a specific subject and want to share your knowledge? Anyting is good, as long as you can write decent engaging content! Don't worry about your Hubs not being good enough, you will soon learn how to make your content better and you can always go back to your old Hubs and improve them (that's what I am currently doing). Also, you can visit the Hubpages Learning Center to understand better how to write amazing online content.

Tutorial: How to Write an Amazing Hub

My Experience On Hubpages

What can I say, I have only been here for a few weeks and I love this website! I have published 25 Hubs and counting, I have enjoyed the learning process and working hard to get better and find everyday new great ideas for engaging Hubs!

I have also started a serie of Hubs where I share my experience and my progress, you can see them here:

What I really love is the complete freedom I have in writing anything I like! I already have a website called Happy Cooking Healthy Living and I write there, this is a common situation for many hubbers. The point is, Hubpages is a great place to put all the posts that don't really fit in any of your websites, and it's also a way to diversify your income and create some backlinks to other websites. I also love the fact that for me Hubpages is like an investment of time: what I mean is that when I write a Hub, I may not make a lot of money on it straight away, but the Hub is still there, getting some views everyday and it will hopefully make me loads of money in time. That's why the key to make money on platforms like this is quantity as well as quality as your content stays there forever. I know of hubs that have wrote a lot over a few months, then never wrote again and still getting paid every month for the content they wrote once. So for me it's really worth a try!

I loved you post on hubpages. I started writing articles here for marketing purposes as an author, but also to find ways to market the titles that are published with an already established publishing house, who was looking for other ways to promote their titles. We hoped our own authors would start writing for hubpages. Two made a start but they did not carry on. Only afterwards did I learn that every article could earn me some extra money through clicks. I've sold my own books due to hubpages and found many other ways to promote my work in order to make a difference.

I love it too. It is user friendly and basically free from censorship. Out of 61 hubs I have only had one that wasn't featured, and that was in my very early days. Unlike other sites, Hub Pages lets you be owner of your own content. I just tried to pull an old article of mine from Bubblews to republish it elsewhere, but the bubble Nazis won't let you do that anymore. Great hub.

Great hub, my friend. I've been here for six months or so, and have made my first Amazon sale last week. Sadly none for ebay yet. But HP is real great. Voted up for useful for beginners!

I'm glad to read this. How many hubs did it take before you could get Google Adsense?

Yes, it's possible to make some money but takes a few years before you really get a steady reasonable income. Those who manage many hubs per week can make a reasonable amount fairly quickly, I gather. I've been on for 4 and a bit years and have only just got past my basic payment! But that's not why I'm here. I love the community and the good practice.

This is a good guide and and an enthusiastic effort at encouraging others to have a go.
