Making My Hubs Better

Updated on December 5, 2010

To Delete Or Not To Delete ?

To delete ARE YOU SURE

My answer is don't do it

I recently wrote a hub and I was very proud of it

Then after I read it over I wanted to make a couple of changes

I said that will be fine

I looked and I had seen a part that I didn't want

I was sure I was deleting the text up above and not my whole story

At least so I thought

Confident as I was

I hit the delete button

Yes and like magic

My whole hub disappeared

I was shocked

I was angry at myself

I first began to curse

How could I do that

I worked 3 hours or longer on that

Gone with a click of a button

So I blamed myself for being so foolish

I know nothing about computers

Why would I change it

It was fine just the way it was

What was I thinking?

I should of listened to the Beatles Let It Be

After venting and ranting and raving like a wild bull who got his horns stuck in the fence one time too many

Nobody else to blame but me

I turned to my wife and asked

You can save me

You have just read it

You can remember ?

My mind is always thinking of my next project

When my writing is done it is done

Out of sight out of mind

My thoughts are cleared like an eraser on a chalk board

As I watched the chalk return to dust

I remember the title

When The Bill Collectors Call

All my thoughts after that are left to you

I know you can do it honey

No pressure

Just relax take as much time as you need

She usually can recite peoples words word for word

Where I just summarize and just get the gist of it

It is amazing how we think so differently

Well this is one mistake I will learn from

Have you done this too ?

All I can do is thank a few people who got to read it

I will try to bring it back

Then someday I will laugh

At my mistakes that taught me a very important lesson

Hit print save a copy

Don't and I mean Don't ever hit Delete

Unless you are absolutely sure

Without a shadow of a doubt

Think it through

Delete for those who don't know

Is a verb and means to take out written or printed matter

It can be found at the top of the page 352 in The Reader's Digest Great Encyclopedic Dictionary the 1966 edition

For those who have an old dictionary still on the bookshelf

Who love it too too much to throw it out

Thinking back to a different time

When you had it in the palm of your hands

You were sure you held gold

DO - I'm computer savvy and I still lose stuff all the time. Not necessarily by hitting delete, either. Sometimes the page just disappears. Especially if I'm writing in a text box like I'm doing right now. Then I think - as I'm about to do right now - to copy & paste it onto a blank page on my computer offline to finish and then copy and paste the finished thing back into the text box. You could print it as you thought but then you'd have to retype it if you happened to lose it. If you save it on the computer, you can just get it and save the typing over.

However if I have failed to take that precaution - and I often do forget - and it vanishes. if I rewrite what I remember of it quickly, usually it's better - shorter, for one thing. Or if I don't remember it enough or am just too disgusted to rewrite it, I just figure it's for the best that it was lost & that my guardian angels were looking after me. LOL. For sure - if it's out of reach, may as well be philosophical about it and move on to something else.

So don't fret! You have a lot more where it came from!! (just pasted this comment which I wrote elsewhere, back onto this comment text box on here. hehe)

This is so funny, I can't stop laughing. I have done the same. It wasn't funny then but I laugh at it now. I backup and copy everything...just in case.

Oh, that's sad! Well, mistakes are always great prompts for learning. I have learned to back up my files when my laptop crashed! That was really a heartbreaking lesson for me.

Great hub! Voted up and useful!

Lucky Cats I am still crying over spilled milk.It makes me understand the beauty of the computer age and how advanced we have become.I thought what if you were born years ago before computers were big and had wonderful writings and works of art at home and lost them in a fire or a flood or just misplaced them forever.I know there are man people who have gone through that. So much more sadness than I will ever know.My prayers go out to all those who loose something they love..Thanks for sharing and if we don't laugh at our mistakes it will drive us insane.

Been there done that! Yow! I was SO upset! When the hand moves quicker than the brain! What is the saying...mouth is in gear while brain is on vacation?...what would we say about our hand(s)? You'll remember it, Dream On...or you'll write another one and think, "this is so much better than the first one..." and feel much relieved! Voted FuNNY! because it hindsight!
