Marking My Maiden Century

Updated on September 13, 2010

I can scarcely believe it, but here it is, my one hundredth hub! When I opened my account in February 2009 I was so overwhelmed by the kind of writing that I saw on the site that it took me three months to get up the courage to actually post an article on hubpages.

In case you are new here and wondering about the image besides this paragraph, this used to be the old hubpages logo. I'm still kind of attached to it!

My very first published hub was on Tarot Decks. It was something that I knew about and was excited enough to want to share. I had just started out with my Angel oracle cards and was super excited about the daily guidance that you could ask for from the Guardian Angels. The hub was not all that great, and I have made no changes to it even though I know there's plenty of scope for improvement.

I wrote initially on a number of sites and there's a long list of them on my hub Making Money Online on these Websites. Then I realized that I was spreading myself too thin and started concentrating on four main sites. These were Hubpages, Triond, Bukisa and Factoidz. Of all the revenue sharing sites that I have been a part of, and believe me I have been a part of many, these four seemed to work out the best for me.

A great part of hubpages is the community and the number of activities that they keep planning. I loved being able to answer questions asked by other people and one of my earliest hubs was on making Mushroom Sauce. It was the first time that I answered a question and got involved in the hubpages community.

I could never get myself to do the 100 hubs in 30 days or even the 30 hubs in 30 days challenges. It just seemed too huge a number of hubs to write. However I loved being part of the hub mob. With Princessa asking a weekly question and you had enough time to come up with as many hubs as you could in the week on that topic. Needless to say I never wrote more than one usually. Although there was one time I did quite a few health related ones.

The hub mob has also changed now with Rosemary replacing Shirley in the hub mob round up. Not to mention that Ryan is no longer with the site. And yes the number of people participating in the hub mobs have definitely increased ever since they were aligned with the contests.

The all new Hubpages has more than just a new logo. It also has contests with great daily, weekly and monthly prizes. And while I have not really participated in them whole heatedly I have contributed a few hubs to the contest.

Of course the contests are not open to everyone because of different countries having different rules about financial contest rewards. Still there are a number of countries that can now participate in the present contest which were excluded in the first round. So be sure to check the list of newly included countries in the latest contest rules page.

My association with hubpages was influenced by a number of members of the community, Pearl Diver who needed help with votes for his hubnuggets, Cris and paperpack who flirted with me in the forums till I changed my profile pic for one which had my son in my lap :), friends like Reena and Snehal, who joined after I did. Its been great being on hubpages thanks to all you guys.

And now I'm winding up my maiden century on Hubpages, and looking forward to the next hundred.
