My Hubpages Earnings

Updated on October 14, 2015

What Can I Expect

First of all, I want to say that Hubpages is not a scam.

When I first joined Hubpages, I wanted to know all the earnings statistics I could find. The issue was, all I could find was Hubpages success stories. This was still great motivation, but it never told me where those hubbers started or how they really got there. This hub is going to show you week by week, what I did and am doing in my Hubpages journey from day one.

I am in no way saying that I am a success story. I am currently the average newbie writer on Hubpages. I am hoping this will become a guide for new hubbers looking to find answers on what is possible in the beginning.

I am going to break my journey down by week. I do not like the month by month updates because a month is a long time in my mind and a lot of things could change in a week. In this day and age of instant gratification, I think we all want to know what to expect in the very near future not a year from now. I will continue to update this hub every week. I am also going to try to cover my entire first year. Follow me to make sure you get the updates.

You can find tables of my activity and earnings data at the very bottom of this hub. I will be attempting to update every Sunday.

Source

Week Zero

I signed up for Hubpages on October 28th, 2012. I am counting my first week as week zero because I didn't write any hubs or make any money. I actually had read about Hubpages, signed up and forgot about it. The I came across another article on Hubpages a decided to sign up when I realized I already was.

Week One

I have written my first few hubs but I have not learned to promote them to get good traffic yet. I am still trying to master publishing a hub and how everything works. I spent most of the time doing research about writing online and SEO. I read every hub with advice for newbies and making money on Hubpages

Week Two

I learned that the best way to get traffic before my hubs get indexed is to be active in the Hubpages community. This week I made it a point to interact with other Hubbers. I read Hubs, left real comments, posted in the forums and actually participated in the community.

Week Three

I have been in the process of moving this week and have not had Internet on my computer. I have tried to be as active as I could in the Hubpages community via my IPhone. However, it is very difficult to publish hubs by phone. I wrote one article on my computer and plan to publish it and others as soon as I have Internet access.

One big surprise, this week, was that my Hub How to Become an Army Combat Medic won a Rising Star award and got voted Hub of The Day. I think that helped my traffic a lot.

Week Four

I finally got my Internet back towards the end of the week! I am so happy now! I did a lot of editing and adding to the hubs I already had published. I continue to research everything I can about SEO, keywords and getting more traffic. I have tried out Stumbleupon, but it is too soon to see if it makes a difference. I'm enjoying seeing my hubscores rise every day. I also got my first real search engine traffic from Google this week.

Week Six

I was notified this week that my hub, "Advice for new Soldiers: Survive Army Basic Training," won a riding star award. I must write the best when it comes to the Army since I have true experience in it and it comes easily.

I also received my acceptance letter for the HubPages Apprenticeship Program. I am on the waiting list so I'm not sure exactly when I will be starting. It will be interesting to see how my earnings change on here once that gets started.

I'm very surprised at the fact that my impressions are so low compared to the fact that I have published more hubs this weeks than any other week. I am also up to 36 followers.

Week Five

I am learning that to get more inspiration for writing, you need to get out and do things. "If you always do what you've always done, you will always get what you always got." I found going for a walk gives me great inspiration. I was able to write more than I had been lately be cause of this.

I received an email this week letting me know that I was nominated for a Rising Star Award for my hub "Advice for new Soldiers: Survive Army Basic Training." I was very excited about this. It makes me have a lot of hope that i will be accepted into the Apprenticeship Program.

This week, i also realized that even though I have Amazon capsules in my hubs I wasn't earning from them. This was because I hadn't finished the registration process with Amazon yet. I hadn't put my code in on the earnings page. So, I hope to start earning from these capsules now that everything is properly set up.

Week 7

This week, I tripled my impressions from the previous week. I also had two days where I made at least $1. This was the first time I had achieved this.

I attribute almost all of my success this week to the hub I wrote about 4 weeks ago about end of the world theories. This hub ranked 8th at the time for my target keyword. The traffic has since dropped off. But, in the days before and of December 21st, my impressions skyrocketed.

Week 8

Well, I slacked off on publishing new hubs this week since I was busy spending time with family. After the holidays I will be back at it with a goal of 1 hub every day. My new focus is grabbing all of my "low hanging fruit". I want to improve my ranking for my keywords that are currently ranked between 8 and 12. I think this will be a quick way of increasing traffic drastically.

Week 9

Another slow week for publishing. My traffic picked up big time from my hub about New Year's Resolutions. I am starting to realize that I am most successful when I focus on lower competition keywords no matter how many monthly searches they have.

Week 10

I finally took the plunge and deleted my 5 poetry hubs. It was painful to let go of my 5 views per week between all 5 of them. lol. My most "successful" poem had only gotten 84 views in 2 months. So, I'm hoping this will help my sub-domain ranking now that I got rid of struggling content. Only time will tell.

I'm also spending time going through all of my hubs and editing them if they are not seeing the kind of traffic my more successful hubs are. Also, I'm working on finding out why some hubs get search traffic and some don't and improving them.

Week 11

I got my official notice this week that I will be starting the Apprenticeship Program in about 2 weeks on February 1st! I am very excited about learning everything I can. Hopefully, being in the program will help my traffic and earnings.

I was pretty let down by my numbers this week. I was hoping for a steady increase but that doesn't seem to be the case. My CPM has been lower than ever. I'm not sure what has been going on but hopefully it will change for the better soon.

Week 12

More low numbers this week and very disappointed. I didn't even have the motivation to write like I had been or the time since I started back at school this week. I am hoping to stay dedicated though.

Week 14

This week, Goggle rolled out an update to the PR (Page Ranks). My sub-domain went from a PR0 to a PR3 as a result of this update. My traffic seems to have revived because of this. I also made my first 2 Amazon sales this week. Things are looking better.

Week 16

I'm still trucking along. So far, in my first 25 days of the Apprenticeship Programs, I have made around $60 for hubs published in the program. This is not included in my earnings but I am thrilled with it. AP pays $6.09 for each hub published during the program up to 15 per month. If you have now considered applying to the program, I would. It is a great learning experience and a boost in earnings. This week, i finally aquired 2 referrals that have written 3 hubs between the two of them. Best wishes to them tallman1061 and janetwrites.

Week 19

I finally took the plunge and deleted two of my hubs that have, combined, only received around 10 views per month. They were not of the quality I am currently writing and I didn't want them reflecting poorly on the rest of my work. I am hoping it will help.

If anyone has hear that here on Hubpages, 20% of your hubs make 80% of you views/income. I want to prove how much this is true. My most successful hub in terms of traffic has gotten 2,409 views in the last 30 days. My total views for all 79 hubs (before deleting 2) comes to 9,159.

What does this mean?

That one hub accounts for 1.27% of my total hubs. However, that 1 hub accounts for 26.3% of my total traffic. In reality, it probably accounts for more that that because I have created other hubs around that topics and linked to them through my most successful hub.

i have heard someone say that writing for Hubpages is like playing the lottery. But, instead of spending money on tickets, you spend time. You never know which hub is really going to take off. I never expected some of my best hubs to become so successful. So, keep writing and when you find something that works, keep with it. It will pay off.

Not bad for a newbie. It takes a lot of time. I have learned that success does not come by writing a mass amount of hubs, but by making each hub great hubs with SEO. Hang in there!

Not harder Gina, smarter. But then again I did just look at your page and you only have 7 hubs in 2 months. How do your earnings compare to mine when I had around that number of hubs? You may just need to write more.

Great Hub Article offering both motivation and incentive. Ponder the middle of the preceding and two before too. I clicked I earn pennies because I like Lincoln pennies. A collector. Ask me about a social experiment with coins sometime for a sociology class. Considering the bills how about a puzzle to figure out. What bill has to do with whiskey, 100 proof, and 1/5. There is a document on line regarding that and if you add the fame of the author it adds up 12, which is reduced to 3. Ponder those funny people and the dept of the Treasury and army stuff. My hope is discovery offers a hub of interest, odd, banking and all that, and you may if you wish leave the name at a fan mail at tsmog

Remember to smile and have fun, fun, fun . . . with words, writing and such

Thanks for doing this. It clearly outlined for me what I need to do to earn a bit more and have a payout. I am only here 6 weeks so am still learning.

Thanks you so much for this descriptive and useful hub! As a beginner on hub pages, this gave me a lot of hope that I can continue to improve both with the quality of my hubs, as well as, the popularity of such.

This is really great to read - I think more people sharing their starting journeys really help to motivate us new guys. I completely agree with you 80/20 theory too by the way!
