A condensed version of my Hubpages Journal. The important stuff!

Nov. 6th marked my first month on Hubpages and I, being a computer science geek, felt an itch to get into the numbers and create a spreadsheet or two. I thought that every month for my first six or so, I might post an update on my numbers, activity, and what I've learned. I'm partially doing this as a log for myself, but also to help anyone thinking about joining Hubpages. When you're curious about how much money you can make on Hubpages, page views, and what hubs work best, any information is welcome, right? So! Let's dive right in with my first month, Oct. 6th, 2011 - Nov 6th, 2011.

Oct. 6th, 2011 - Nov. 6th, 2011

I published my very first hub after signing up on Oct. 6th. Hubpages' interface was easy to figure out, and I didn't have any trouble writing my first hub. I kept publishing one or two articles a day for a bit over a week, but I hadn't been indexed yet and my Adsense account was not activated. Eventually, however, I made my first cent, and then a few more, until I saw a steady stream of pennies coming in almost every day. It wasn't a lot, but I was encouraged. Then, I got lucky and had two Hub of the Days in a row. Funnily enough, one of them was my very first hub. My traffic shot up and peaked for a few days, as well as my earnings:

I should note that this is NOT any one revenue source- I've used and earned money from Adsense, Hubpages' Earnings Program, and Amazon, and they are all reflected here. Anyways, you can see where the revenue spiked and petered off with traffic. Altogether, I made about six dollars my first month, without any effort at backlinking or promotion.

One of the major things I found, if not particularly surprising, is that the Hubs I set out to make money on are the ones getting search engine traffic and clicks. On one hand, I do enjoy making money. On the other, I'd feel like something of a sellout if all I ever wrote were 'Best ______ for _______' hubs with Amazon capsules all over the place. This next month is leading up to Christmas so, honestly, I'll probably write more gift articles, but I hope to keep publishing factual hubs that interest me also. I wrote 36 articles in a 30 day period and only missed two days of writing. I plan to keep up the pace, although school, my job, and other writing projects can make it difficult.

You can check out my Hubpages Journal: The Second Month HERE. The news is pretty exciting stuff. :) I made a cumulative $68 between Nov. 1st and Nov. 30th. All the details of how and why are at the link. I'm updating this page with an earnings table for easy reference.

Interesting post. Look forward to your next one. I've found something similar about writing things that are interesting personally and that is that they often don't receive as much traffic as you think, whereas the hubs that are more informative do a lot better. I haven't written hardly any selling hubs... yet.

Thanks to both of you! I had a pretty nice morning today - almost nine dollars from Amazon, with more orders still processing! I think it's going to be a good month. :)

I can't wait to write about this month! And then I realize I've still got something like 21 days left in it! Suffice to say, things are awesome. :) Thanks for the comment!

Good luck! Don't be discouraged if your first month or so is slow. Things pick up. :)
