One Hundred: What Does It Mean?

Updated on September 13, 2013
One hundred dollar bill
One hundred dollar bill | Source

The number following ninety-nine, a number with two zeroes, the square of ten, the sum of the first nine prime numbers, one hundred ones or ten hundred dollar bill...100(number), one hundred push-ups for good health... what about a story in one hundred words or a list of one hundred objects, there are so many ways to use one hundred, and then there are the HubPages milestones; one hundred comments, one hundred followers, a one hundred score, one hundred hubs and one hundred forum posts. One hundred is a special number.

I recently received this email which got me to thinking about one hundred;

You have hit a pretty impressive milestone—you have made 100 Forum Posts!

Fun fact: The first 100 days in office are considered a benchmark for the performance of the President of the United States. Chances are your first 100 Forum posts are a part of your great contribution to our community!

More Facts About One Hundred

Not wanting to disappoint I decided to write this hub since it could be Hubpages next success story...after all what's not to like about one hundred?

One hundred! There was The Hundred Years War between England and France in the Medieval Era. According to Wikipedia, " Although primarily a dynastic conflict, the war gave impetus to ideas of both French and English nationalism."

So much to see and learn about one hundred and things one hundred. Did you know the Oreo cookie turned one hundred on March 6, 2012? What about one hundred calorie snacks? More and more are showing up on the market. Of course they neglect to tell you the one hundred calorie 'bag' of cookies only holds three cookies.

Did you know the largest bill in the United States is the $100? The U.S. stopped making larger bills during WW II. How about this fact....The clock on the back of a $100 bill shows the time as 4:10. One Hundred On HubPages

So what does one hundred mean here on HubPages? I've searched through HubPages to come up with some things other writers here have said about one hundred.

There's Jonmcclusk who wrote a poem about his one hundred followers.
Tirelesstraveler wrote a lovely hub about one hundred followers entitled "Tribute to My Fabulous First 100 Followers".

Cogerson has a hub, "The Cogerson 100th Hub Celebration Show" that not only describes how he got to one hundred hubs, but thanks many of his followers!

Deborah Demander wrote about her one hundred hubs and also gave tribute to some of her followers in a hub entitled "Reflections on One Hundred Hubs".

Jlbowden writes about one hundred hubs after being on HubPages for one year in his hub, "One Year and One-Hundred Hubs Later".

Erin Le Fey writes a beautiful poem "One Hundred" in tribute to her 100th hub.

Of course the inimitable Billybuc wrote a wonderful hub entitled "100 Hubs How Did That Happen So Fast".

What about a score of one hundred! That fleeting little 100 we sometimes see in the bottom right-hand corner of our Avatar. While we tell ourselves it doesn't matter, we do get a euphoric feeling when we see it. I actually had a one hundred for four consecutive days...but I know others think about it too...just look at the hubs written about it;

Stephanie Henkel entertains us with her hub "Unsolved Mysteries - The Elusive HubScore Code".

And J.S. Matthews addresses a lot of the questions we all have in his hub, "Why Is My Hub Score Fluctuating? 3 Steps and Tips for Maintaining a High Hub and Hubber Score".

The list goes on! Last but certainly not least is a score of one hundred on a hub! No, I have never had a hub reach one hundred. Actually my highest hub score is ninety-two but I'm still working on it.

Moonlake talks about one of her hubs hitting one hundred but also throws in some comments about our beloved Zzzs in her hub, "One of My Hubs Hit a 100 Score!".

Hal Licino, my new hero, had seven hubs with a one hundred score at one time and he tells us about it in his hub, "The Secret to a Hub Score of 100".

Cloud Explorer tells us a bit about his technique and gives some ideas on how to reach that one hundred in his hub, "One hot! article to hit a hub score of 100".

One hundred to the left of us, one hundred to the right of us, now to just get one hundred to be ours!

Find One Hundred Ways

One of my 100 days!
One of my 100 days! | Source

So, in addition to one hundred forum posts, you can have, as we've seen, one hundred hubs and one hundred followers, but you can also have questions that inspire one hundred answers, and you can answer one hundred questions and yes, you can have a score of one hundred!

Since this hub is brought to you by the number one hundred (I know a little Sesame Street plug never hurt any hub), let's look at a few more things we frequently see with the number one hundred outside of HubPages.

One hundred is the basis of percentages (per cent meaning "per hundred" in Latin), with 100% being a full amount. (Wikipedia)

We often hear of the top one hundred, like the Top One Hundred Songs of the Century, or One Hundred Best Movies....Top One Hundred Baby Names, One Hundred Most Dangerous Cities...there are also many One Hundred Clubs.

One hundred is used as a milestone in celebrations, not just HubPages....One Hundred Year Anniversaries for towns and businesses, universities, buildings, the list goes on and on. hundred is not the end on HubPages or anywhere else for that it is just the beginning of each venture. It is a stepping stone in your continued journey of success. When you reach one hundred either followers or hubs or questions, whichever milestone it is, celebrate it, embrace it and be proud of it. Let it lead you on to higher numbers...then you can celebrate the number two hundred, but that's another hub!

Jon, it is always a pleasure to acknowledge a fellow hubber, especially for his good work. Time often gets in our way and keeps us from things we don't even realize. The important thing is you did find your way here and leave a comment. Thank you.

It's hard to hit 100 on anything really, so it is a good point to stop and celebrate. I remember hitting 100 hubs not long ago, for which I was chuffed, but which seemed like years in the future when I started!! lol. Loved the line "neglect to tell you the one hundred calorie 'bag' of cookies only holds three cookies" .... oh soooo true (less is not necessarily more!!).

I like $100 bills when I have the chance to have one wrapped in my bill fold, something about the feeling of not being broke:-) Previously when my username was Saddlerider I reached the 100 author score a number of times, since I've changed my username to Vincent Moore, I rarely achieve 95 mostly floating between 90-95 oh well, I suppose my work was more popular when I was a saddle? lol I love your work here now if I could live till I'm 100 I would start smoking cigars like old George Burns did.

Bill I bet we both write at least 100 more! We're on a roll ;)

Effer you are so inventive, adroit, and imaginative. I probably should have called you before writing this hub as your comment sounds like part of my hub. I'm sure folks will read it and head to Tammy's hub about one hundred things you can buy for a dollar and your hub about The greyhound bus, a U.S, Marine and 100 miles...that was such a moving and touching hub. Thank you for loving me with all my faults ;)

Thanks Janine, it just struck me as something to write about, now if I could just come up with more!

Mary, I've never had a hub reach 100 so I guess that's my next goal! Thanks for the votes.

I'll probably never get the "honor" of 100 ForumPosts. I read the posts, but seldom comment. I was so excited when I saw my Author Score reach 100 I took a screen shot and left it on my desktop! I have had a couple of Hubs that scored 100 and that was a thrill too.

Great Hub on 100's. I voted it UP and Awesome.

100 cheers for this unique and fun hub, Til....You've made me think in hundreds now......I hope this doesn't stick in my head for more than 100 minutes!!

I've made it to a hubber score of 100 four different times. Unfortunately, none lasted for even 100 hours....but the momentary thrill made me feel 100% terrific, for as long as it did last. And when I saw that one of my hubs reached 100, I jumped for joy, at least one hundred times! Alas, I wore myself out for naught. It was down the next day...but I didn't waste 100 tears on it.

This was a very creative hub and looks like you did some heavy duty searching for hubs with 100 hundred in them......I thought of 2 more...I'm pretty sure Tammy wrote a hub about one hundred things you can buy for a dollar....wasn't that it? I think she won a Hub Award for it!.....Also, gf...I wrote the hub about The greyhound bus, a U.S, Marine and 100 miles......LOL.....looks like that damned number 100 is all over the place here at HP....but I don't think we have a hubber who is 100 years old! If we do....there needs to definitely be an award for the hubber with the longest endurance!!

You don't need to do anything to be the next success story. You ARE, without a doubt, a 100% SUCCESS right now..just as you are!! UP++++...........Bravo!!
