Online Writing - Year Two Brings Good Results!

Updated on April 16, 2011

The good people here at Hubpages recently acknowledged my two year anniversary with a silver medal. It was very satisfying to receive this type of recognition and I thought I might as well put together a quick recap of my two-year online writing experience.

Have I Been Successful?

Two years ago I wondered whether or not I would consider my time spent as an independent contractor time well spent. My answer is YES the time has been time well spent. I reached all the small goals I set for myself, I emphasize that my goals have been small because I am not able to devote as much time to writing and Internet marketing as I would prefer.

My profile explains the reason for this so I won't go into much detail at this time, except to say that living with inabilities of any kind does not mean that a goal cannot be achieved. It is easy to obtain goals that are not designed for failure. Had I set out with high expectations I most certainly would have failed. Since I set out with the goal of just doing my best, I made it easy to meet with success.

At this time I am getting paid to write for a few article mills. While the pay is nothing at all to brag about, I have enjoyed the opportunity to write about whatever interests me and receive a small compensation in return.

I have even enjoyed picking up a few private clients along the way who actually pay what I request. My confidence grows with each new experience I encounter and I am happy to continue to learn as I go.

Revenue Income

These past couple of years has helped me establish my revenue income. I am pleased to report that Google Adsense does come in handy. I wanted to see evidence that writing one hundred hubs would result in a faster pay out and I now am convinced that it does.

I think my experience will benefit anyone else who is only able to work very limited hours due to illness or perhaps other pressing responsibilities. My first pay out came after eight months of writing on Hubpages. After putting in two years I am now reaching pay out in three months time.

Hubpages Ad Program

I am curious to see how the Hubpages Ad Program will help my passive income totals. I am hopeful that between Google and Hubpages I will see some sort of payment on a monthly basis. So far I have discovered that the impressions on my Hubpage accounts seems to supply me more bang for the buck. I feel as though I am being paid for my contributions when actually I am merely receiving a small share of the income generated by my page views.

My Factoidz Experiment

Some of my attention has been diverted to the Factoidz website. Although Hubpages is still number one in my book, I have been trying out other sites based on recommendations I respect. Factoidz has recently undergone some changes so I will publish twenty articles on the site to see if anything positive comes from contributing. It turns out I picked the perfect time to begin this experiment because now I can compare Factoidz with Hubpages and see who's system provides the better pay per impression.

Factoidz pays more often. No matter how miniscule the amount, a monthly check is issued to my Paypal account. I was surprised to receive a Paypal payment after I published my first article. Especially when I realized the payment was for eleven cents! I couldn't believe a site would send out a payment for such a small amount. Yet every month I receive a Paypal payment regardless of how small.

Hubpages issues a payment after $50.00 has accumulated. I look forward to determining which site enables me to reach fifty dollars first.  While Hubpages impressions seem to add up faster, Factoidz makes bonus assignments available which pay upfront  and are added to the amount of income generated by impressions.

I have been learning how to write review articles on requested services and products. Factoidz asks that a certain procedure be followed when reviewing or comparing products. The more detailed the information, the higher the cash bonus received.

The downside to Factoidz seems to be the loss of revenue after a period of time has passed. Factoidz owns the articles written for the site so a writer should not expect to receive a constant revenue source like is received at Hubpages. The company ends up with the bulk of the profit while the writer gets a quick one-time payment with a small percentage of page impressions.

The Next Two Years

In the future I look forward to distributing my time among my own website and Hubpages, with a dab of Factoidz thrown in. Shortly my professionally designed website will be up and running and I will be spending time writing web content to benefit myself. I look forward to the challenges and am optimistic that the results will also be good.

With all the changes in the Google search engine, it has been a confusing time. Still, two years of online writing has provided me enough options to feel confident that I will continue to meet my goals and perhaps surprise myself with one or two fringe benefits added along the way.

Peace and Retirement

There is nothing like an early retirement to help us appreciate what we have. My dear husband has finally put in enough time to merit taking it easy.We can't believe this time in our lives has finally arrived, yet here it is. Now we look forward to moving into our very first home and living on his pension. All that is left to do is to find our very first home so that we can pack up and move into it.

We have discovered in this our first month of retirement that being sick and retired beats sick and tired every time. No one knows what the future will hold, but meeting each day's challenges is much easier when retirement is satisfying and fulfilling.

Kudos on such achievements! I have also noticed that hubpages ad program adds up pretty fast. I haven't reached payout yet, but I just started. Thanks for the advice about Factoidz. I think I might go check them out and start to spread out a bit.

Stacie, I still need 5 more articles to reach 20 then I will stop and consider whether to continue with Factoidz. So far the only advantage I see is getting paid for the reviews. Hubpages pays more for page impressions. Let me know how you like it and thanks for the comment.

So very proud of you, my friend. So hard to believe that you have been at it for two years. I met you soon after you got started. I am also impressed -- but not surprised -- that you have so much going on with your writing. One of these days, I want to be you! Also thrilled for you to get a new home and for your good husband to get to take it easy a bit like you do (lol NOT!). Think he'll get the writing bug? We all need step by step instructions on how to change GFI outlets and other basic electricity hubs.....ha! ha! I'm trying to put him to work before he gets used to taking it easy.

I didn't realize you had MS. I have severe fibromyalgia so I can relate in some ways. It's great to see you've done well in your first 2 years of writing. I've been at it for 6 and still going strong. Some days are better than others :)
