Please don't employ dirty tricks. Not Wikipedia, or Facebook.

Updated on May 20, 2012

An important rule.

Please dont do this on me.
Please dont do this on me.

Cheating is not funny.

Throughout history there have been imposters. We have only to go back in Europe to the fourteenth century, and the great schism, to see the damage that was caused to The Catholic Church, by a series of antipopes.

Later in Russia great problems were caused for Catherine the Great by a series of rebellions led by men who claimed to be her dead husband Peter III.

In our own time we have the phenomenon of The Hitler is not dead crazies, or those who swear they have seen Elvis Presley working in their local petrol station.

But I am not writing this article in order to throw further light on those intriguing mysteries, but to tell you about the latest incarnation of that time honoured tradition.

I am referring to the false christopheranton, and the antics of this individual have left me far from amused.

Some of you may be familiar with a hub I published a few days go called "Family Troubles. Not Wikipedia". Some of you read it and were kind enough to leave some very generous comments, which I appreciate.

I was quite pleased with this article, and considered it to be one of my better efforts. As always, with writing, a certain amount of care had to be taken in getting it right, and the whole exercise probably took me around four hours to complete.

Imagine my annoyance yesterday when I discovered that my hub had been unpublished, for violation as a duplicate.

I knew that I hadn’t put it anywhere else, so I fired off a fairly stiff e mail to HubPages to request its immediate reinstatement.

The reply I got shocked me to the core.

I was told that my hub had been published on a site called 68articles.com. That was the reason why my page had been unpublished. When I checked this site, I discovered that was the truth. What is more someone had went to the trouble of registering on 68articles.com using my username, and publishing my article.

When I think about it, this can only have been done by someone who knows the policy on duplications on Hubpages.

I further believe that it can have been done only with one purpose in mind, and that was to sabotage my hub.

I don’t know the identity of the false christopheranton, nor do I suppose it will be possible for me to find out.

I can only assume the action was motivated by some professional jealousy, or dislike of me personally. Whatever the reason, it was a shabby nasty type of thing to do. It has caused me a lot of problems at a period in my life when I have more than enough of them already.

I have contacted the other site, and have had the duplicate removed. I have noticed that my original is still unpublished here. I hope it won’t be too long until it is fully reinstated.

To the false christopheranton I would like to say. Please don’t try anything like that again. Life for decent people is hard enough, without them having to deal with "dirty tricks" from scum like you.

If you must be some kind of Nazi, a grammar Nazi is the best type of Nazi to be. Take care my friend and thank you for your interest.

Ah hah, I'm glad to see changes made with such haste. If I am to be any kind of nazi, grammar nazi would certainly be my choice.

Thank you for wishing me a speedy recovery C:

      Rant on, Christopher!

Philanthropy. Thank you for your comment and your appreciation of my hub. My gratitude is extended also to you for pointing out the several errors which you have found. They have now been corrected. I hope that you recover from your shock very soon.

That must have been truly irritating for you, but I'm glad that the site took down the duplicate.

Also, I was going to comment on the good quality of this hub, and don't misunderstand me it truly is good, but the mistakes on " I hope it wont be too long" (won't*) and "Please dont (don't) try" quite shocked me and I suggest that you amend them!

Nice to see it all work out in the end though, good luck with future hubs :)

Hi sunforged and Rebecca. Thanks to both of you for your supportive comments. I guess people just shouldnt steal. It was a bit of a cheek to use my username as well to register.

Rebecca thanks for the tip about hubdefender, and the forums. I shall certainly be looking in to both.

Christopher-- there were many many hub writers who were on there, and I feel for you. I would also suggest that you have an account to hubpdefender, as this way you can check to see if you content is duplicated there.

Also go on teh forums, it was up there and the information is still coming in. All the best.

Christopher, You were not personally targeted, 1,000's of hubs were stolen and reposted on 68articles.com

That's truly scummy Christopher. I hope it all gets rectified properly, and that it doesn't happen to you again. Sympathies indeed.

      Linda.

      Thanks Stan and Keith.

The really annoying thing about it was that it seemed to have been done by someone who knew the new stricter HubPages rules about duplications. There was a one day interval between the two publications. But the "Perp" very cleverly registered on the other site with my username to make it look as if I were doing it myself.

Anyone could do that to any of us. I just hope it stops now.

It defies belief that someone could be so petty. Hopefully hubpages will rectify it. Surely there would have been a time frame involved to show that your piece was published first? Good luck mate, we're on your side.

What you've described is pure theft. I've had a couple of priceless (to me) guitars stolen and know the burning feeling in my gut that episode generated - something similar to what you felt I'm sure. The frustration of not knowing who did it and not really being able to do much about it is one of the worst feelings in the world. Sounds like you got it straightened out. Glad to hear it. It was a very well-written piece.

That's what I was thinking. I guess I was jealous because I didn't think of it first! LOL. Let me know how it turns out. Of course, if everyone starts using the same trick it won't work anymore. I promise not to steal the idea!

      Hi Austinstar.

I,m sorry you had similar problems with your website. Hopefully mine was a once off.

You ask about "Not Wikipedia". I stick that in the title of most of my hubs, because Wikipedia is such a popular site. If someone looks up a subject on Wikipedia, and I have written something on the same thing, mine will be on the same page because of the word. I say "Not Wikipedia" because to say "Wikipedia" without the "not" would be false advertising.

Sometimes I say "Not Wikipedia or Facebook" as a lot of subjects are on Facebook as well.

It's an experiment. I'm not sure how well it works yet, but I intend to keep using it for a while. Every little helps.

      I hope that makes sense.

That's terrible Chris! It could happen to any of us! Thanks for bringing it to our attention. What a scummy thing for someone to do. It's just out and out stealing and yes, cheating.

I used to have a huge problem with spammers sending out email as Austinstar, probably still do. I just haven't checked on it in a while. It really destroyed my web site and I have never recovered. I can only put up with it as I don't have the resources to fight it.

But I was hoping that HubPages was better. Maybe it is as they have restored your hub. I'll have to go read it. Sorry I haven't before.

But frankly, I don't understand why all your titles have "Not Wikipedia" in them. What's up with that?

There are despicable people out there, christopher, who having no writing talent of their own steal the work of others. Regret you got caught up in that. It is probably happening more than we know in today's online world.

Hope that is the end of it.

I complained to the other site, and I think they are taking it down.

It is back up on Hubpages now. I just hope that can be the end of it now.

I was so shocked to find the hub missing when I was planning to check it for further comments. Please know that you have my full support and sympathy regarding this entire horrendous misanthrope who would do such a thing. He or she is just a - - - a - - big old gracious thing! BOGT - the worst possible person!

I hope your hub will soon be restored.
