How to Use Pinterest to Increase Traffic

What is Pinterest?

Pinterest is a new social networking site that seems to be the new rave! I recently discovered Pinterest and absolutely love it!

I had been using Pinterest for a couple months when I entered the URL to the hub I just wrote, Don't Feed the Trolls! Deal with them Effectively. It had not yet crossed my mind to pin some of my better hubs to Pinterest because most of my followers have probably already seen them on Facebook. But today, I noticed that five complete strangers had re-pinned my "troll" hub. One of these people had 486 followers, and there was my story, pinned onto one of her boards.

That is 486 more people who can read my articles off of just one person! I suddenly became extremely excited and chose a few more hubs to pin.

The following picture is a picture from one of my follower's Pinterest feeds. She has 256 followers, but my hub that she re-pinned shows at the top, which made it easier to capture this picture.

Why Pinterest?

There are a few bookmarking sites I use to help promote my stories from HubPages; however, each site has specific rules that must be followed, according to their own guidelines.

Pinterest is a casual social networking environment and pinning Web pages is easier than most sites I have personally used. Here are more reasons to use Pinterest:

  • You can arrange your boards according to topics or niches and organize your bookmarks accordingly.
  • Pinterest is a creative way to track specific projects, such as home improvements or wedding registry ideas.
  • Your number of followers at Pinterest grows quickly. My group of followers if growing faster than any of the other social networking sites I am a member of with little work on my part. If you are an avid writer, you could also consider buying followers and repins from Public Monkey if you are in a hurry to gain a large amount of followers.
  • When you pin your article to Pinterest, you receive a new URL, different than the one provided at HubPages.
  • The appearance of Pinterest is quite attractive as well as practical. There are several columns for adding pins to your boards, which minimizes the amount of scrolling you need to do to browse through the site.

Another nice thing about Pinterest is you don't have to use it just to promote your hubs. Anything you view online, you can Pin It. Let's say you're looking to remodel your kitchen and browse the internet for design ideas. You find a kitchen idea that you absolutely love and want to keep for later reference. Create a board called "Kitchen Ideas" and Pin the picture to your board. You can look at it later, and your followers will see it. Who knows? Someone else might need a new kitchen and you saved them the trouble of looking for ideas because they loved the kitchen design you just Pinned.

Pinterest has been a nice diversion from some websites that we are allowed to post to. Some of them require you to write a bookmark, or a short summary of your writing before you can do backlinks (for example, Xomba). It's nice to just "pin" my stories. I do not post them all there. Some of my earlier stories could use some revisions. I am constantly receiving new followers on Pinterest, which has helped increase my daily traffic by about 65 to 70%.

      Thanks for your interest.

You have to click on the Add button, and it will pull up your adoptions to created a pin or a board. You can name your boards whatever you want to. Pinterest also has a "Pin It" button, or extension, that you download onto your toolbar, then all you do is click on it for whatever Web page you want to "pin" and go from there. It takes a minute to learn, but it is worth it. My numbers have risen quite a bit since using Pinteret. Good luck WorkatHomeMums!

Any idea how the categories form? For example I can ' explore' a craft category but how do images get in there to start ith? When I pin I am only pinning to a board I created with a name I created. It's confusing. Any ideas how the categories work?

Thanks, Debbie! I am hoping to see an increase in traffic as a result. I only pinned what I thought were my better hubs. It's definitely not the right time of year to post Christmas-related stories...lol.

Also, you could create a referral tracker and manually upload the URL instead through Pinterest, versus using the Pin It button. Then, you can check your referral trackers at HP at a later date and see how many people are reading your articles there.

Thanks for the support gogogo. Pinterest is a lot of fun, and you will pick up on it quickly. I pinned several of my articles on my board two days ago and have had 11 re-pins on my stories alreaddy

You can follow topics, yes, but you can create "pinboards" and name them however you want to. I have 6 boards, but a friend of mine has at least 12. I have the named Some of My Writings, My Dream Home, Lake Michigan, Funny Stuff, Animals, and Great Movies. I do not know how many people have read my articles from there, but I do receive notifications when anyone "re-pins" my pins to their board. However many followers each person has that "re-pins" your stuff is the potential possibility for extra views. Thanks for stopping by!!

I joined Pinterest just last week. I now have some of my online income hubs pinned on my board! I can't tell how many people have read my articles, however. I was only given a choice of 3 or 4 topics to follow.

Thanks for the vote and support! I am not sure what you are referring to an "invitation". I did not have to deal with that to get an account. If you need one, let me know, I will see if I can get one to you.

That's a great idea! If you like someone else's article, share it, because we would want others to do the same for us. I try to add a couple hubs from other hubbers to my articles. Thanks for the support!!
