How to Select the Best Topic for Your Article on Hubpages

Updated on September 2, 2018

It is not 2008 anymore. Keyword research and SEO is not as easy as it used to be. If you want to do keyword research in today's world, pick a niche everyone is talking about like SEO, demonetization, world crisis etc. In addition, make sure you include the keywords that evoke curiosity and create the title that everyone wants to read and click through.

One mistake I made when I was new on hubpages was that I was picking big keywords. In short, keep the following things in mind:

  • Pick small keywords.
  • Pick buzzwords.
  • Pick booming topics.

In other words, go after new interesting things, whether it is cryptocurrencies or new products that are coming out. Go after new upcoming words and you can find them using Google Trends.

How Does Google Trends Work?

Google trends actually breaks down what's hot, what's up and coming that people are typing and tells you about all the new topics that people are talking about. The reason why you should go after the new topics is that they are not that competitive so if you create content around them, you are gonna skyrocket to the top way faster than if you went after old terms.

Now that we got the basics out of the way on how to find the right keywords, let's go into tools you should be using.

1. Ubersuggest:

The first tool I have for you is Ubersuggest by Neil Patel. In Ubersuggest, if you put in a keyword, it will give you ideas based on what people are typing in. For example, people just don't type in the keywords like "baby food". They type in keywords like "which baby food is best for my child" or "which baby food will make my baby gain weight". These are really popular terms. Ubersuggest will show you different variations of your main keyword and it will even show you how competitive they are, how much search volume you are gonna get and how many people are gonna click on it. And that's what's cool about ubersuggest.

2. Quora:

Type in keywords related to the article you want to write and you are gonna seethe most popular questions that people are asking. Yes, I know that I mentioned ubersuggest earlier and I told you about getting ideas for long tail non-competitive terms, but the cool part about Quora is that it is based on user's feedback and you will see their answers and their uploads. And when you start seeing the most popular questions, you will know what kind of content to create That's related to your space and when you do that, you can start going after the topics that has a lot of responses and votes. This actually means that people are more curious about these specific topics and by creating answers on your own articles on hubpages that are more thorough and more detailed, you are gonna get more and more traffic on these articles.

What To Do If You Are Selecting The Right Keywords But Still Are Not Getting Any Traffic?

One thing you should always keep in mind is that don't always just focus on keywords, focus on good and detailed content. Create content about specific detailed topics. For example, you want to write an article about "how to write an article". Don't write this, instead be specific. Write "how to write an article on Hubpages" because at the end of the day, it is not about creating 1000 words article, it is all about creating content that is high in quality, detailed and is unique from all the other articles on internet and is more informative than all the other articles. That is wikipedia does well. It is not because they have a lot of links or brand queries, it is because wikipedia has some of the most detailed articles. For example, if you go look up their article on Martin Luther King, it is so in depth, it covers every little thing about Martin Luther King. They pretty much covers everything under the moon when it comes to Martin Luther King. And that's the same thing you need to do with your content. In short, create content that is super thorough and detailed.
