The Best Hubs for New and Old Hubbers

Updated on September 18, 2014

Writing On Hubpages

If you think all you have to do on Hubpages is write then you are very wrong. If fact, actually writing Hubs is the easy part.

Finding subjects to write about which are popular but not over saturated, getting traffic, SEO, keywords, long tail keywords, correct picture use, quality content, plagiarism, promotion, Hubber score, Hub Score, CPM, Adsense and affiliate programs are just a few things you need to learn about if you want to become successful here on Hubpages.

But please don't let me discourage you, Hubpages is one of the best online writing platforms to get your work seen and, done correctly, can even create a regular online income.

Hubpages provides a wealth of invaluable information, most common questions will be answered in the FAQ and Help Forums and you should also visit the Learning Center before you start writing a Hub.

In this Hub I will attempt (I say attempt as there are so many amazing and helpful Hubs) to list the best Hubs to assist you to create Hubs that get good traffic and search engine ranking.

Plagiarism is the copying or use of another person's work and passing it off as your own.

Copying content from any source, whether online or offline and using it, word for word to create a Hub is considered plagiarism.

You cannot, and must not, simply cut and paste a body of text into a Hub. Some people think they can just copy a Wikipedia page and make a Hub from it. You will see it happen again and again, here at Hubpages and all over the Internet.

But doing this is a waste of time because Google will know it was just copied and penalise your Hub (ie. give you zero traffic/views), in fact Google may penalise your entire Hubpages account if it has just a few sentences which appear elsewhere online.

Google loves original, unique and useful content and will reward you accordingly.

*There will be some exceptions such as collating bits of information from around the web to create a single page which will actually be useful to the reader. You should however rewrite that information in your own words and style.

This should not be taken as a suggestion to just rewrite an entire article, often referred to as respinning. Always have the reader in mind and ask yourself if what you are writing will actually be useful, informative and not available anywhere else online.

Why You Will Never Make Money on HubPages

This is one of the first Hubs I read when I started and the information contained within it is still helping me to create successful, popular, money making Hubs today.

Table of Contents

A table of contents is simply a bunch of links at the top of an article which take you to a specific part of the page.

Have you have ever done an Internet search and see the information you want in the description in the search results but can't actually find it when you click through to the page? This is where a table of contents is needed. If you write a very long Hub you should include a table of contents to help readers find the information they are looking for. If they click on your hub, can't find what they are looking for and quickly click away from the Hub it can be detrimental to your Hub in terms of search placement.

Proper Planning Prevents Poor Performance

The Hub below explains how and why you should focus on a niche or niches. If you create a few Hubs around the same topic or subject, link them together, either through contextual links or groups, or both, they will all benefit and gain more views and higher search engine placement.

Backlinks are simply a link on another site to one of your Hubs, links are not as important as they were a few years back but they still play a part in how likely your Hub will come up in Google search results.

The more quality sites which have a backlink to one of your Hubs will help your Hub in two ways. Firstly they will drive traffic to your Hubs, secondly they will give your Hub more authority in the eyes of Google.

Think of a link like a recommendation, if ten friends recommend a restaurant to you, it is probably a good one. The more links (recommendations) your Hub has, the higher it will be shown in search results, maybe even the holy grail of the Internet, page one of Google!

Learn How To Make Money On Hubpages

You may have started writing here just for the love of writing, and that is fine, but if you want to actually make some money from your writing then you need to read this Hub first.

This Hub will list the best practices to get good traffic to your Hubs using keyword research, SEO, layout and much more.

Google Adsense

In order to earn anything here at Hubpages (except Amazon affiliate program) you will need a Google Adsense account. Even getting approved for a Adsense account is becoming more difficult, most people recommend having at least 25 high quality Hubs before applying.

Once you have been accepted for a Google Adsense account you must be very careful not to lose it. There are numerous rules about what is and what is not acceptable use and also many gray areas. I would suggest you read all the conditions and terms of service before you start writing to make sure you don't fall foul of any of the rules. Once your account gets banned you can't apply again.

Get Inspired!

If you have been writing here for some time, your traffic is almost non existent, you have only earned a few pennies and feel like throwing in the towel then you should read this Hub to lift your spirits.

Remember, every successful writer here started with nothing, just like you. If your at the bottom of the pile now, the only way is up!

This Hub is full of useful tips to increase your views, earnings and boost your morale.

Improve Your HubPages Earnings

"How much can I earn here at Hubpages?" This is one of the most commonly asked questions in the forums but there is no definitive answer. It depends on many, many factors.

You should really ask yourself, "How can I increase my Hubpages earnings?"

This Hub by relache, a Hubpages writer for over eight years and with over 10 million views, will provide some excellent advice and tips to improve your earnings here.

How to Create Groups for Your Hubs

Once you have written a few Hubs in the same area of interest you will want to put them in to groups. This simply means that at the bottom of your Hub the visitor will see other Hubs in the same group you have written. So if you have written a few Hubs about dogs, you just create a group called dogs (only you will be able to see the name of the group) and put all your dog related Hubs in to that group.

The main benefit of using groups is that once a visitor finishes reading your Hub, there is a good chance they will click on and read one of your other Hubs, essentially doubling the number of views per visitor, your earnings and the potential for an Amazon or eBay sale.

Pictures, Picture, Pictures!

It is not essential you use a photo/s in your Hubs but most people would recommend you use at least one.

Many people will simply search Google images for a picture, save it and use it in their Hub. But unless you have permission to use that picture it is copyright infringement. Just because a picture is on the Internet does not mean it is free to use.

This Hub provides a good list of places where you can find images to use legally.

The only one which I would say is missing is flickr. But you must check the 'Only search within Creative Commons-licensed content' & 'Find content to use commercially' boxes and give credit to the owner of the photo by giving their name and a link.

Hubpages provides a good, in depth guide to correct image use here.

Someone Stole My Hub!

The Internet is a pretty lawless place, like international waters, it is full of criminals, bandits, thieves, crooks and people who can operate without fear of the rule of law.

Content theft is massive, especially on a popular site like Hubpages. People will copy your work and publish it on their own website or blog in order to attract traffic and make money from it.

If you write anything half decent, someone, somewhere will probably copy it. The first time it happens you might feel violated, annoyed, angry and upset. But don't, it won't get it removed any quicker. You will see people posting angry posts in the forums about it, but the time they spend doing that could be used to get it removed.

I have had my work stolen many times and I felt those emotions mentioned above but you must put your feelings to one side and approach it in logical, methodical manor.

You will need to file a DMCA complaint, Hubpages will provide a template which you simply email to the company which hosts the website where your stolen content has be republished.

It takes me less than five minutes to file a complaint and the content usually gets removed in less than a week.

Don't get angry and upset, take it as a compliment and just remember the saying 'impersonation is the highest form of flattery'!
