The Highest-Paid Hubbers Make $650 to $3,800 per Month: Learning from their Stats - Part 2, Conclusions

Updated on April 28, 2020
alocsin profile image

The author has been writing for HubPages since 2008 and likes to thank his fellow Hubbers by showing him how to make more money.

This is part 2 of a series. Please read Part 1, Big Money, so you can understand this information thoroughly. Otherwise, much of it may not make sense.

One of the big differences among the top hubbers is the number of hubs they’ve written. Susana S has only 96 hubs and yet earns $850 a month from them. Kathryn Vercillo boasts the greatest number of hubs at 1,123 and is the second highest earner at $1,500. Marye Audent, the most successful hubber with $3,800 a month, has 742 hubs. Clearly, you can succeed with a lot of hubs or just a few

I’ve performed a few calculations to show some interesting information about the hubs. The following names are arranged in alphabetical order by first letter to make hubbers

Monthly Income
$ per Hub
Views per Day
Views per Hub
$ per View
Blake Flannery
John D. Lee
Kathryn Vercillo
Marye Audet
Susana S

Views per Hub

Dividing the number of views per day by the number of hubs produces the Views per Hub (per Day) column. This shows how much traffic each of a hubber’s articles attracts.

  1. Blake Flannery boasts hubs that attract more than four times the traffic of the next closest writter. Each of his hubs gets an average of 209 views per day. His total monthly income is slightly less than average for this group.
  2. Relache is next with 45 views per hub per day. Her total income is near the bottom.
  3. Susana S has 42 views per hub per day. Her total income is equal to that of Relache.

Earnings per View

Another way to measure earning power is to divide the monthly income to get the earnings per day, and then divide that result to produce the $ per View (per Day) column.

  1. Top hubber Marye Audet makes the most earnings at $0.01 per view.
  2. Habee, our only 100 HubScore hubber, is next at $0.008 per view.
  3. Susan S, who also gets one of the highest earnings per hub, gets $0.007 per view.

Earnings per Hub

Dividing the monthly income by the number of hubs produces the $ per Hub column, which I think measures the earning power of each hub.

  1. Blake Flannery rises to the top of the list with each of his hubs worth an average of $9.55 per month. He has to do the least amount of writing to earn the most money.
  2. With fewer hubs than Blake, Susana S made her hubs the second most valuable at $8.85 each per month.
  3. Biggest income earner Marye Audet does slightly better than the average $4.02 per hub. She earns $5.12 for each of her hubs.

Types of Hubs

The types of subjects these top hubbers write about cover a wide range. Presumably, they only write about things they enjoy and have some knowledge about. The following list includes links to the hubbers’ profile pages, so you can find out for yourself what specialties cover.

  • Mary Audet focuses on home restoration and homesteading. Her page includes indexes to her thousands of hubs. She also writes hubs that do nothing but organize her other hubs. This makes it easy for her fans to find their favorite topics.
  • Kathryn Vercillo writes on business, computers and alternative medicine. Many of her hubs appeal more to men, who are the main users of the Internet. In contrast, Mary Audet’s efforts focus on the interests of women, who are the main users of hubpages. For more information on audience types, read my hub entitled Who Reads HubPages? Audience Stats to Increase Your Traffic and Maximize Your Hubs.
  • Blake Flannery concentrates on jobs, employment and music. He also has a series of hubs about birthday wishes at different ages. I suspect this unique niche gets searched for a lot on Google.
  • Susana S has the fewest hubs and says she writes on a variety of subjects. Her consistent earnings are all the more remarkable considering that with one exception, she wrote all her articles over a year ago. Many of her writings are product-related with a strong marketing slant. I suspect much of her income comes from sales at Amazon. If you’re interested in making your money that way, you need to read her hubs to discover what excellent SEO writing for sales is all about.

So, how can we apply all these statistics, plus looking at the to increasing our earnings.

  • Get a ton of followers. Having at least 2,000 is a good start.
  • Increase your total page views to at least 4,000 per day. Until you reach that threshold, you won’t be making much.
  • The number of hubs don’t matter. You can have about 100 hubs that you market well, or you can go for quantity with at least 700 hubs that you don’t market as well. If you want some information on marketing your hubs, check out my links below.
  • Find a profitable niche. There’s no one subject that makes money. Find something profitable that you enjoy writing about and then spin that knowledge into many different articles.

Great job! You saved me a lot of work, lol. I’ve been trying to figure out how to get my stats up, been on hubpages off and on for 11 years. Total earnings so far a little over $2,000 mostly from hubs I wrote 11 years ago and never did anything else, but I just started getting back into it and reviewing and updating my hubs. I’m hoping to earn a lot more!

It looks like Mary Audet even left Hubpages. When I originally joined she was on the welcome page as the top earner on Hubpages. I see something in the comments about her having sexual ads or displaying on her articles on homesteading, living off the grid, etc. Mary will be missed.

      Thanks for the interesting article.

Cheryl, It's a bit of a guessing game. others have said, the articles that do well are not always the ones you expect to do well. Just keep writing about topics that interest people and that people search for. If you can find one that doesn't have a lot of Google competition (use Google Adwords to figure that out), then that increases your chances for organic views from searches. Also, go onto forums and social media and post links to your article, when appropriate, to drive traffic to them.

Generally the hub pages site is not a earning site where you make money. This is more than the rule. I have a fair amount of experience on this site having written for more than 10 years. I just do not have the key how a miniscule band of writers is able to make any money.

    • Rock_nj profile image

      John Coviello

Those monthly earnings are on the high end for this site. There may be a handful of writers making that kind of money, but as one who's been around this platform for a while, I know it's not the norm. You need a niche that gets a lot of views and need very good articles.

I want to earn $ 1 per day as first aim and $ 10 per day as next aim. Recently a small earnings started to earn. I will try to progress every day. But my request is not to decrease hub and hubber score every day. You start these score at 1 and increase as per activities and quality. My hubber score was 75. When I started to work, it is started to decreasing every day. It is strange really.

Interesting analysis. But, I'm not sure why Blake Flannery makes so much more per Hub in a month than the other top 10? He must be selling products on eBay or Amazon, because all things being equal the HubPages ad program pays out at the same rate more or less for everyone as far as I know. Or, is it that his Hubs have ads that pay more?

Do you think it is more important to have followers than to be ranked in Google? I have focused on the later, but my views dropped down to less than a quarter of what they were, which is what has caused me to be inactive on here recently.

You seem really knowledgeable about hubpages. At risk of showing my ignorance, I'd like to ask you a question. Do I have to be on here for 6 months before I can earn anything? You have to have Adsense before you can have any of the other programs that earn you money on here and I have an Adsense account but it keeps popping up in red that my account is less than 6 months old when I try to link it. I hope I'm missing something here... Any help anyone could offer would be great!!!

alocsin, Ihave read so many comments and forums lately talking about how traffic has "dried up" for people on hub pages. Do you know if these top earners are also being hit hard? Maybe it is just temporary, but I would love to hear if this is happening to them as well. I'm so new that I wouldn't know if my traffic dropped or not! But, I'm sure successful hubbers like these listed and yourself would know if the Panda or whatever else might be getting blamed for the decline, was also affecting them.

I would like to know how these writers are marketing their hubs, and what methods are bringing in their revenue (adsense, helium...). Most predominantly if their "followers" actually read all of their stuff.

I mean sure I could add all of these people commenting and they all could add me, but let us be frank; what are the chances they will read my material and vice versa? That number would only be 50, let alone 2,000.

Really interesting to see these stats. I have been earning within this income bracket since having about 90 hubs so I agree with you that the number of Hubs doesn't matter much. I am almost at 4 million page views. I tend to always stick to the same topics when writing Hubs though.

I think I saw in a forum thread that these stats have generally changed - I THINK it was Marye Audet who said (in the forum thread) that her earnings have nearly halved - after panda (or was it after penguin?) Still trying to wake up, sorry - need another coffee! But, bottom line, interesting hub, and definitely inspiring. It's not just gaining a lot of followers that can help bring more traffic - sharing other people's hubs plays a big part in the process too. Sharing this hub to my HubPages followers.

Thanks for this nice hub. Like you have already discussed above, you don't need tons of hubpages to make decent money. What you need however is quality and traffic.

I suspect (hope) that there are more $1,000-a-month-writers than your list indicates. Anamikas, sunseven, pattyinglishms, soni2006 – just to name a few – each have about 1% of total HubPages traffic.

It's a great information here. I think a lot also depends on the way one promote his hubs. But are these incomes purely from Hubpages? or it is sum total of other sites of hubbers as well.

Great Hub. I stumbled upon a Hubber who been here for two years, has written two Hubs, and received a Hubber award for 100,000 views! Wonder how much he earns? Is not on your list.

Lots of information and great facts on the top Hubbers :) I'm still quite new for this (6 months old) and I think I've done quite well with keeping myself in the 90 hub score range and making a few dollars (at least) every month. Maybe in 2+ years I can be at the top with them! Thanks for the info and Sharing :) Voted up and interesting

4000 views seems like a ton. I am glad to know that people do get there and that it takes time.

This is encouraging information for those who have not started to earn a decent monthly income on HubPages yet.

I agree with you totally that organic traffic is the aim if you want to earn money writing online.

And that it is not the number of hubs that count but the quality of the writing and the SEO of these articles that count.

Very useful hub. Thanks for SHARING. Up, useful and interesting

Great lessons in how to make money from writing Hub Pages; using successful HP stats is essential. Until I see and can absorb the facts (precisely views per day etc.) at my own pace, I can't absorb the usefulness of the information properly. But this Hub lit a light bulb in my head! Many thanks.

alocsin, the rest of the story was just as interesting. I am going to continue to read your hubs on similar subjects when I have time. There is so much to learn about hubbing. I am slowly but surely getting there in tiny bites :)
