Why Are Women the Best Hubbers?

Updated on April 4, 2010

I often click on "Hubbers" on the HubPages site and this takes me to a page of the highest rated (best) Hubbers. The first two pages are typically women. This perplexes me and leaves me wondering:

  • Are women just that much better at writing than men?
  • Is it because women have sex appeal?
  • Does HubPages discriminate against men?
  • Should I try to replace my profile picture with a sexy picture?
  • Are women really that much more interesting than men?
  • Is it simply a matter of statistics - there are many more women on HubPages than men?

Anyway, I find this interesting and I wonder why this is....in traditional "book" writing, men seem to outsell women and be the most popular authors. What's different about HubPages? I think men are being discriminated against! We men need to up the ante, as we can't let "Women Rule HubPages". It's been scientifically proven that men have larger brains than women anyway, so what gives?

      Hola. Thanks for all the comments everyone. I've been away for awhile, focusing on my fitness.

      @Gereriquemedia - thanks for the comment. That's true, women are more likely to share experiences!

      @cindyvine - perhaps women can juggle time better - I still have a mixed opinion about that. I agree, most men waste time on the Internet playing games or looking at porn.

      @Lisa HW - Thanks for the comment. I couldn't find that male brain diagram anywhere...:( good luck to the women on the taking over the world project.

      @Salty Tanned - thanks for the comment and for stopping by! Nice name, BTW.

      This hub is like an oasis! Whoever drew that brain has talent. This is the best humour I have read in a while.

      Very clever diagram you've got there.  How about one on the male brain that is a giant gray blob with three words that take up the whole thing - "Me", "Myself", and "I".

      (Actually, now I'm feeling guilty over making that joke because I have the rare man or two in my life who would not fit that stereotype .  Then again, based on what I've observed in a good number of men, they may be said to be as rare as a three-dollar bill.)    :)

      In answer to your Hub's question:  Women are taking over the world.     :) Come on, sisters - Associated Content and Triond next!! :)

      I suppose more women as women can juggle their time better than men, that's how they find the time to be on hubpages. Also, when women are on the internet, they are doing something contructive like writing hubs. Most men are just checking out porn or playing some kind of killing shooting game.

      haha, love the female brain thing.

      Statistically, there's slightly more woman than men. Women are also much more free to converse and share their ideas, and combining that with many who love to tell stories and share life experiences...

      ..you've blogging, HP, YouTube, etc, etc.

      @Mighty Mom - thanks for the comment!

      @Aya - maybe I'll follow up with a male hubpage article with the male brain diagram...it's pretty funny. The diagram is bigger though and may not scale to the screen, since the male brain is larger! :)

      lol kea - that brain diagram is hilarious. You should have also posted one for men though - tis only fair :)

      I also noticed that the top hubbers are mostly women. I suspect that there are more female hubbers than male hubbers. Perhaps women also have more varied interests, and appeal to a larger portion of the HubPages community.

      Can't say I ever noticed that trend as some of my favorite hubbers are males. But I agree that here on HP, women seem to write on topics that have universal appeal (how's that for glittering generalization).

      Another thought-provoking hub.

      @fortunerep - I agree, women are probably nicer and probably comment more. I read a lot of women's hubs though...how can I not, they are the top ones! Oh, do you have the link to that hub on "how to get laid by an Indian girl"? :)

      @GT - agree...women are better communicators. Men don't like to talk much - at least most men I know don't like to talk much, including me.

      @SweetiePie - I like that model of the female brain. It is pretty stereotypical, but I think it's funny. There's a male brain to compliment it out there too....same style and just as stereotypical.

      @LG - take a chill pill :)

      @Denny Lyon - true...larger brains aren't necessarily smarter! That's right - men do have a tough go of it in life! The testosterone causes all sorts of problems for men!

      @womanNshadows - enjoyed your comments. You sound like one cool cookie! Duct taped sandals? That's not very lady-like! Melrose place was popular in the 80s...you can replace it with "Gossip Girl" to make the brain more modern.

      @AEvans - didn't write to get a large response. This was just an interesting observation I've made during my hubpages experience. I agree there are quite a few excellent male writers out there, but howcome they aren't listed as the best hubbers? Mark Knowles shows up sometimes in the first two pages, but the rest are almost always women! Is Mark secretly a woman?

      @Feline - Kea's scared of cats!

      @RB - :( @Misha - who's Julianna? Is that from Vanilla Sky?

      @TM - Ha ha. Women are good pets too, if you have the time to listen to gossip and go shopping. :)

      Men make good pets, if you have the time and energy to clean up after them. Otherwise, I suggest a dog or a cat.

      Melrose Place is a twenty-something soap opera from the nineties. It was so boring I could never watch more than a minute of it, but I am not big on network TV personally. All the good shows went away for the most part in the mid to late nineties.

      I believe you wrote this to get a large response, yes men are smart however women are just as smart and it simply is equal opportunity on hubpages.GoldenToad, BadCompany99, Mark Knowles, Misha, Darkside and many others are wonderful writers, so honestly I do not see discrimination on HP, what I see is great communication. I love your pic and you don't have any need to replace as we accept you for who you are. :)

      hmmm. interesting brain. i wonder who drew it and what woman they dissected it from. let's see. i own three pairs of shoes. canvas sneakers, snow boots left over from when i lived in New England and a pair sandals that are duct taped. i like sand dollars instead of gold. can't stand diamonds. shop only for food. yes, i can clean a toilet, and i do windows. i don't get headaches. i like to give them though. i don't care for gossip unless it's about someone i know and hate. my husband loved to hear me talk but i never over talked. and i think goldentoad is right about the "women are better communicators," but then my husband was always trying to draw me out to talk more.

      btw. what or where is melrose place? is that a book? i'll have to google it and does that make me less a woman?

      i guess the women of hub pages could always bow out for a boys day on and have a girls night out but then what would you talk about?

    • Denny Lyon profile image

      Denny Lyon 8 years ago from Baton Rouge, Louisiana, USA

      HAHAHAHA, "larger brains" does not always mean smarter too! I usually give men a pass as I find you an enjoyable sweet species (pat on the paternalistic head).

      Besides, men have a tough go of it in life. Why? Because you have 100 times the testosterone rocketing through your veins than women, causing you to often think with the wrong head.

      There is nothing better or more prized than a man with a healthy sense of humor. Keep up the good work! Ask questions; be odious. You will learn a lot and one day acquire wisdom...

      How stereotypical that female brain model is though lol. I hated Melrose Place, do not enjoy gossiping, only shop for what I need, etc.

      Women are better communicators, men don't like to put forth the effort, especially man to man. hubpages is about communicating.

      Are you freaking serious, that is absurd, maybe women are more popular becuase they are nicer, comment more, write on subjects that only a few men would read, unless it has sexy pics. What about the guy (name escapes me) that wrote a Hub on how to get laid by an indaian girl, please, just like women some men ruin it for all, But, I like men, alot.
