Writing Melbourne - Melbourne Hubpages Social Meetup
Writing Melbourne – The First Hubpages Meet in Australia
The first Hubpages social meetup was planned on Australia Day 2011 and was held in Melbourne on 17th February 2011 at the Stolberg Beer Café in Preston (197 Plenty Road, Melbourne, Victoria, Australia). A small group of four hubbers got together to share drinks, a nice meal and Hubpages strategies and goals for the next year.
For everyone not in the know, Hubpages is an online writing platform that encourages writers to earn a residual income very easily and in a fun way, with minimal restrictions on content. You write online, in a supportive community of writers, and you write what you want (within the minimal guidelines set by Hubpages ie, no porn). The Melbourne, Australia group was formed by enthusiastic hubbers who decided to get together and share strategies on how to succeed at online writing and online marketing of their articles.
Who Are The Melbourne Hubpage Writers?
The Meet was a great one – we all received lots of information from each other and had fun putting forth ideas as a group. Holding the meeting in the beer garden of the Stolberg allowed us to accommodate everyone well with space and also provided pleasant surroundings which inspired new friendships.
Members who attended included Melbourne members:
Congratulations to everyone on your participation in making the first Australian Hubpages social meetup a memorable experience.
Strategies At The Melbourne Hubpages Social Meet
After introducing ourselves, we excitedly discussed Hubpages strategies, including:
- Backlinking & Traffic
- Evergreen vs News
- Genres & Topic Choices
- Genre Trees & Capstone Hubs
- Hubs which made us lots of money and traffic
- Hubs which didn’t succeed and why
Group Input At The Melbourne Social Meet
May PL shared some great information on writing business topics, including the subject of graphic design, positive thinking, website development and business skills and goals. May also shared some secrets on traffic generation and the role of the internet as an information highway in hubs. Her knowledge helped us to see that information plays an integral part in attracting traffic, and that business subjects that are ultra-competitive can still succeed.
“Kangaroo” Jason examined genre trees and told us about his prolific hubs on “Magic - The Gathering” and about the importance of writing what he knew about and was interested in. Jason had a lot of expert knowledge to impart from his online adventures in the years before he discovered Hubpages. I’d even go so far as to say that Jason was also an expert in what Google looks for in hubs and how to go about pleasing the Internet god.
Suzanne mentioned strategies in creating ideal hubs, the importance of evergreen topics and handy tips on making the hubs work better. She was able to share strategies on how to make product hubs and craft and travel topics more successful. Suzanne talked about the importance of aesthetics and supported Jason with the Google mastery.
Richard, being new to Hubpages, shared his insider’s view on the financial world and financial publishing and received helpful information from everyone on how to build successful hubs. He is quite keen to get started and his mind was overflowing with great ideas to write about. We look forward to hearing from you soon, Richard!
All of us talked about our earnings and hubpages goals for the next year and all of us had interesting perspectives and viewpoints.

Our first Hubpages social meetup in Melbourne, Victoria, was inspiring to all…
Our social meetup at Stolberg was a great occasion where everyone benefited in some way. We enjoyed talking to each other and sharing with each other. All conversation was agreed to be kept confidential and copyrighted by the owner (ie, no one would copy). We developed a great respect for our fellow hubbers and look forward to meeting up again in a few months time.
