Year in Review: 2014 Memorable Lines on HubPages
2014 Year in Review
A Weeping Window cried a cascade of blood into the moat creating a Wave crashing over the instant graves of so many fallen.— annart
Most Memorable Opening Line in a HubPages' Challenge
What a memorable opening line above if ever there were one written by annart who was Inspired by an art installation at the Tower of London commemorating the perished soldiers of World War One.
Memorable opening lines are like that tingling sensation when new love is stirring in one's heart. Then the rush of a culmination of sensations when shy lover's hands finally touch for the first time bringing on that anticipation of what is to come. Memorable indeed!
Several months back, I began to ponder about whether how much, if any, of my writing is memorable. I thought about all of the great literature throughout history, poetry, creative writing and so on, and those I found to be memorable. I asked a question here on HubPages inquiring as to what is the most memorable line in literature or elsewhere that anyone had read. To my surprise, my question produced many interesting answers and had hundreds of views.
After a bit, I began to think on all of the memorable writing I have read over the past year here on HubPages, and through this hub, I want to take this time to show my appreciation to all the writers of such memorable writes. There is no way to include all the memorable writings I have read, so please do not despair if I did not include something you had written. To all of those I follow, I want to emphasize the reason I follow you is due to the fact that you do write memorable writes, believe me.
With dialogue, we can create anyone we please, and often with just a line or two.— willstarr
Most Memorable Line on Writing Fiction and Short Stories
If one is smart when it comes to writing fiction and short stories, then surely one is wise to heed the brilliant advice given by Will Starr in one memorable line above. If you have never read any of Will's work, then you are missing out on a special treat. He certainly knows his stuff when it comes to writing fiction and short stories.
You'll be on your way to memorable writing of your own in following Will's great advice. Will was so kind to give away his secret.
All Will Be Well
More Memorable Lines Used in Challenges
Talk about living up to a challenge and going above and beyond, for when Romeos decided to participate in Annart's challenge, one does not easily forget his submission! His most memorable line below resulted from a beautiful painting prompt of Annart's. Her beautiful painting produced many memorable submissions to her challenge.
Romeos' beautiful poetry is always special and like no other I have read here on HubPages. He is unique, which makes his writing memorable. Thank you so much, dear Romeos, for never boring us.
That sundown, a sapphire mountain balanced ancient burn to retrieve Adonis' armour from steel clouds; dartles that had pierced a million huddled shadows upon a thousand unsure shores had sketched her world in shades of God.— Romeos Quill
Our New Addition to the Family in 2014, Max
Memorable Last Moments Spent With a Beloved Pet
When it comes to our fur babies, there is nothing more heartrending when their time spent with us comes to an end. Our special friend, Maria, also known as marcoujor here on HubPages, lost her beloved Aunt Baby in 2014. She wrote a special tribute to Aunt Baby, Life Lessons From A Wise Dog, which is certainly a most memorable and loving tribute to her special Baby who helped her heal through a traumatic time in her life.
In reading of Maria's last precious moments with Aunt Baby in her most memorable line below, one cannot help but to become overwhelmed with emotion. I cried buckets.
I hope you weren't as frightened to start off on your next journey with my voice singing in your ear and your parents hugging you tight.— marcoujor
Although Aunt Baby will never be forgotten, I am happy that my sweetest friend now has another fur baby in her life, sweet Andy, who is a beautiful black lab. He already knows the meaning of loyalty to his new mommy and daddy.
Earlier in 2014, I emailed Maria a photo of our newest member of our family, Max, a chocolate lab, and Maria told me that seeing that photo of Max had given her an idea and that she was so excited. To my surprise and delight, Maria later emailed me a photo of her new family member, Andy! Maria was indeed courageous to embark on a new adventure of adding to her family once again. I understand the hesitancy in rushing into adding a new family member after a great loss, for we lost our sweet Cookie in 2013, who was a Jack Russell Terrier. However, we surely missed that unconditional love our beloved fur baby provided to us, and I know Maria is now being loved unconditionally by sweet Andy boy.
Max is Doing His Mick Jagger Impression. He is all Wet from Playing in the Sprinkler. He is such a Big Ham.
"What the Faith"
My dear friend, Maria Jordan, aka marcoujor here on HubPages, wrote a compelling story, "When Compassion Replaces Fear", which is a most memorable story published in Tales2Inspire: The Ruby Collection - Gifts of Compassion. Maria writes about a time when she was working with the homeless population as a nurse in Philadelphia, PA, and met "Joyce", who actually taught Maria beautiful lessons. I was thrilled to receive a copy with a lovely inscription by Maria as a Christmas gift. Of course, I had to order more copies for friends and family.
In addition to receiving her lovely book, to my surprise and delight (see my expression on my face in the photo to the right), I received my first "Dammit Doll" ...yes, that's right, I said, "Dammit Doll", which arrived on a day I needed it most. Keeping in mind I am one to try to be mindful to not use curse words, well, as we say here in the Deep South, cuss words; this unique gift provided a great outlet to pound out my frustrations in this life when necessary. After having a good long laugh at receiving such a gift, which released a lot of stress in and of itself, I decided to test it out by taking out all of my pent up frustrations on that doll. It worked! So glad my husband was not at home at the time to witness such a release. That poor doll endured and its designer fabric held up.
Now, everyone at my workplace wants one to put to good use. I believe that is my most memorable Christmas gift in 2014. Hey, even "Faith Reaper" has her moments. Thank you, dear Maria!
HubPages Authors' Books Continue to Bring Smiles
Memorable, Beautiful Line about Memories
Gail Sobotkin, also known as happyboomernurse here on HubPages, has written a beautiful story of love and loss, "The Boy I Loved and Lost", which was published in Chicken Soup for the Soul: Find Your Inner Strength.
Our generous Maria Jordan, sent this wonderful book as a gift, where dear Gail had written a beautiful inscription inside the front cover. Gail's story of her first love, Helmut, who died of bone cancer at the young age of 21, and when Gail was only 18 years of age, is poignant and powerful. This life event impacted Gail's life forever as she changed her college major from English to nursing.
Below is a memorable line Gail has written about memories. I certainly will not forget it any time soon! Thank you, Gail, for sharing your heart and impacting the lives of so many throughout your life. I know you will continue to do so. Hugs and God bless you.
I read somewhere that memories are like diamonds in the treasure chest of your spirit, and the memory I had of John, the middle aged man in the bed across from Helmut's, came back to me like newly discovered hidden treasure.— happyboomernurse
Another Memorable Opening Line Used in a Challenge
2014 was certainly a year for challenges issued by writers, where all of the wonderful challenges produced amazing articles and many participated, which added much interest. Here is manatita44's response to a challenge issued by billybuc, The Woman on the Mountaintop.
Below is the memorable opening line. Beautiful!
At Pinnacle Peak,
At the zenith of the Cascade Mountains,
The river of life flows upwards.
The virgin dawn springs forth,
To the sanctity of the forest trails.
All around is wonder;
The resonance of the valley,
Evokes a sweet tranquillity in my heart.— manatita44
More Memorable Lines Used in Challenges
Below is a memorable line written by my dear friend, Bill Holland, also known as billybuc here on HubPages, describing his beautiful wife, Bev, in his own response to his challenge. How lovely and memorable!
Her energy spreads forth across the great divide, to the valleys, the forests, the mountains and beyond, becoming one with them, melding with them, finding peace in them.— billybuc
Memorable Opening Lines in Poetry
Personally, memorable poetry is like looking deep into the eyes of love, then with reckless abandon, being taken away to that other place.
Read Anna's most memorable opening line below, and please take time to read her entire poem, for you will not be disappointed in the least.
When the letterbox banged,
On that cold December day,
Jean shuffled with bent bones,
To collect bills she couldn’t pay.— annahaven
There is no doubt whatsoever that, poet extraordinaire, Audrey Howitt, knows how to write a memorable opening line in poetry. Her poetry is like no other and always provokes deep thought. Just read the beauty of the memorable line below.
i spoke with my soul this morning
as I was pulling weeds
thick and thorny,
troubling concept really
that one undetected
so much.— Audrey Howitt
Ruby, also known as alwaysexploring here on HubPages, paints a memorable picture in one's mind with this poignant, yet beautiful poem. Ruby combines a bit of her real life with her writing, which makes it even more magical. I just cannot get that picture of those little girls dancing out of my head.
This is certainly one of the most memorable poems I have read in 2014.
Read and be moved!
Oh how the little girls loved to dance for pennies in an old honky-tonk dive …— alwaysexploring
More Memorable Lines from Poetry
Jo, also known as tobusiness here on HubPages, gets things heated up in her poem, A Poem of Love and Deceit Fools Gold. Her memorable line below is just a taste of her talent as a writer. Jo always writes to educate us on serious health issues, being a nurse. However, just like many others here, Jo is also gifted in writing superb poetry and creative fiction stories.
Tangled bodies glistening still
The potent essence swirls and spill
Melts in crucible of pleasure
She held tight her pyrite treasure …— tobusiness
2014 Poet of the Year
What can I say about John, also known as Jodah here on HubPages, our Poet of the Year in 2014, except that he is certainly deserving of that Hubbie Award, for he is a superb poet whose writing is brilliantly creative and unique. All those who voted for him already know this to be a fact.
After reading John's poem, If I Could Write a Love Poem, there was not one bit of doubt he certainly could write one, so much so, that it has remained in my mind as one of the sweetest and memorable love poems I've read this past year. Below is one of the lines to his poem, questioning whether he can write a love poem. Check out his entire poem, and decide for yourself!
If I could write a love poem
I’d rip pieces from my heart
And place them in your open palms
To ensure we never part.— Jodah
In 2014, We Lost Our Beloved "King of Clowns"
Victoria Lynn has also written a most memorable poem in tribute to the memory of Robin Williams here in, Oh Captain My Captain Your Verse I Dare You a Poem in Honor and Memory of Robin Williams. Please enjoy!
On Letting Go
And in that freeing act
I, too, am freed,
To try, to fly, to be,
To go, to do
All I am meant for, too.— Nellieanna
The bright arch in the night
And you dazzle in my life to new heights,
Your eyes do chase me…
Time eternal and I immerse in your thoughts.— dghbrh
Love from the Sky
My eyes grew dim
As you kissed my cheek
I breathed rushing
How much my heart can bear.— Crissp
Who knew that Deb, our resident expert on birds and life at Boomer Lake, plus professional photographer, is also a brilliant poet? Well, all who read her poetry, now know, and what a special treat it is to read her poetry. Deb is also known as aviannovice here on HubPages, and her poem, The Life of a Lonely Ballet Dancer, is truly unforgettable.
Below is one memorable line from that poem.
Working her muscles until they scream,
Life of the ballet dancer is the theme,
Working so hard, can’t be replaced
Never truly loved, rarely embraced.— aviannovice
Another, who knew ...our scientific-minded genius, Linda, also known as AliciaC here on HubPages, could unleash such dramatic flair in her poem, Lucifer's Desire The Bearer of Unearthly Light? Once again, all who read in awe of this most memorable poem, now know!
The memorable line below is just a sampling of her talent.
The flames of darkness glowed
and sent out tongues of lust,
empowered by desire
to grasp life's severed souls.— AliciaC

Memorable Title and Line in one Flash Fiction Piece
After reading Stephen King's quote to the right here, I now understand more why some are able to write so graphically on topics that are so memorably disturbing - I think ...
It is apparent while reading a great writer's work when alone in your home, especially these thrillers, that you are reading a great writer when you are too terrified to turn around for fear there is something behind you! You get that eerie feeling, while reading. Now, I am sure to have my back to a wall when reading any terrifying thriller novels, especially written by Stephen King or Frank Atanacio!
The Church's Beauty was only Skin Deep— Frank Atanacio
He turned to face the woman on the floor, momentarily caught up in both her beauty and her apparent melancholy.— Frank Atanacio
There were still faint traces of red in her hair, the famous mole above her lip--which danced around so much when she was particularly angry--was another reminder of the many tales surrounding the old girl.— Randy Godwin
Drbj is a remarkable woman who can actually talk to the most interesting animals found on this planet. She is our own Dr. Doo ...no, no, no, but she is a Dr. Enjoy her most memorable interview here with Pronking Springbok. Drbj has an extraordinary gift of humor and creativity and it shows in everything she writes, especially her interviews. As an added bonus, her interviews are quite educational!
Stratford, the South African Springbok, shares his secrets about pronking as an escape method, as a joyful expression, and as a DBT - Date Bait Trait.— Drbj
Most Memorable Hub with Profoundly Memorable Line
Mabelhenry has written one of the most beautiful and memorable hubs I have read on HubPages. I love the beauty of her message in this hub. Below, I have shared just one of the memorable lines of her hub. Back when I first read her amazing hub, I just could not forget how beautiful it is, and the imagery of the beauty of the bare trees she creates with her profound words.
The Beauty of Bare Trees— mabelhenry
By wilderness, I mean the uninhabited place our hearts were before God took up residency there, uninhabited because if God doesn't dwell there, it is an empty place indeed in terms of life.— mabelhenry

MarleneB provides great advice on how to beat stage fright in her wonderful article, A Voice Artist's Guide on How to Beat Stage Fright Before it Beats You.
