A Sense of Happiness
Find happiness using all 5 senses
A while back, I realized that big extraordinary thing that would make me happy for the rest of my life, wasn't going to happen. I realized I wasn't going to win the lottery. I wasn't going to marry Jake Gyllenhaal. And I definitely wasn't going to realize my dream of writing a best selling novel (okay. Maybe someday!).
I realized I was going to have to find my own happiness. And the easiest way to do this was to find pleasure in all 5 senses.
My favorite sight in the whole world is my kids. I could stare at them for hours. When they were little, I used to watch them while they slept. They just looked so peaceful with their little flushed cheeks and mussed hair. To this day, every time I look at them I think "Wow. I made them.". My children are my biggest and best accomplishment.
This is my favorite picture of all of them.
"That look" from my husband
You know the one. The look that tells me he's been thinking of me and nothing but me all day. The look that makes me feel sexier than Angelina Jolie. The look that tells me I'm going to really enjoy the next few hours............Yep. That's the one. I love to see that look!
A sunset from anywhere is beautiful.
But a sun setting behind mountain peaks is a breathtaking sight.
There is no feeling in the world like lifting my face to the sky and feeling big fat snowflakes landing on my nose and cheeks.
I love the feel of the wind on my face when I'm riding a motorcycle.
Petting my dog after she's had a bath
We use this ultra expensive specialty shampoo on our chihuahua, Lexie (otherwise, she gets dandruff). After she's had a bath and she's all dried off, her fur feels incredible. I can only describe it as somewhere between silk and velvet.
There is no heat in my bedroom.
So the only way I can get sweet dreams in the wintertime, is by feeling the softness and warmth from my fleece sheets.
I have a little ritual I do every morning when I wake up. I heat up some water, add some homemade hot chocolate mix and sit on my porch. Then I watch the world come awake. The best part? Tasting that first sip of hot chocolate. Mmmmm.
Applebees has a dish that literally makes my eyes roll into the back of my head. It's the Crispy Orange Chicken Bowl. I always order it without vegetables and with extra slivered almonds. I swear I can smell it the second the waiter walks out of the kitchen. I like to just let it sit a minute so I can breath in the delicious scent. When I take that first bite, I always sit back and close my eyes so I can concentrate on being in heaven.
Salt & Spice. I used it on absolutely everything!
A whistling tea kettle
My whole life, I always wanted a whistling tea kettle. I always thought they were so cute when I seen them in movies and on tv. But I figured it was a waste of money because I'd never use it. Boy, was I wrong! My husband got me a simple little tea kettle last year for Christmas and it's been used every single day. I have hot chocolate in the morning, hot apple cider in the afternoon and some soothing tea at night. I just love putting water on and waiting for that whistle. Sometimes I even boil water for no reason at all, other than to hear it whistle.
My childrens laughter
I can't even describe how I feel when I hear my children laugh. I'm not talking about a little haha. I'm talking about a full out burst of laughter. The kind they can't control. It's like music to my ears.
My Daughter singing
I'm not going to lie. My daughter does not have the voice of an angel. But she's my angel and I love listening to her sing. It's one of my favorite sounds!
Last year, I made fresh baked bread for the first time. I'll never forget that smell.
I know, it smells the same every time I bake it. But there's nothing
like the very first time.
I'll admit, I'm kind of obsessed with fabric softener. When I wash my sheets, I put in extra fabric softener. And when I put my pillows in their cases, I add a fabric sheet to keep that fresh scent as long as possible.
That new baby smell
New baby scent is better than new car scent. No I don't mean the smell of spit up, formula, and poopy diaper. I mean the smell of clean new baby. The smell of fresh new life mixed in with a little Johnson and Johnson baby shampoo.
This is my baby sister taking in the sweet scent of her new baby.
How could I not include cinnamon rolls? Whether they are homemade in my own kitchen or made at the Cinnabon in the mall, they both smell scrumptious!
What's your favorite sense?
