Although the general consensus is that changing information, whether it be RSS feed, News feed, or just an ordinary update will cause the searchbots to visit, I am sceptical on all three counts. I use Market Samurai to test out these theories and as far as I can see, it is a fallacy that any 'updates' cause the searchbot to visit.
Evidence: MS shows me the number of days since a bot updated. I have a /latest/ RSS feed set in all my hubs. I have created hubs over the last 2 weeks, about 1 per day. I also have News feeds in most hubs. I also have done changes to older hubs. The number of days since the Googlebot visited my oldest 11 hubs is between 33 days and 6 days.
This would seem, on the face of it, to show that whatever you do to try to "force" the searchbots to visit, it has little effect.
Others may differ on this however.
However, you should not forsake RSS feeds as they have uses other than the one you are trying to use them for.
