   Do you vote down an answer because you disagree with it?
   
   I have been browsing the Q and Q a bit and have noticed that a lot of people who give very relevant responses are voted down.
   
   The conditions are "Please vote up an answer if it adds to the discussion, or vote it down if it does not. You cannot flag an answer, but if an answer receives enough down votes compared to up votes, then it will become hidden."
   
   But it appears that hubbers are routinely voting down answers simple because they disagree regardless of whether or not the response "adds to the discussion."

   No, I do not.  And I do not think people should vote down based on the views expressed (as long as they express it in an non-offensive way and as long as they are not using attack languages or using expletives, etc)

   This has been going on for ages, especially if the Question and/or answer has any religious over tones.
   
   I have noticed that the God Squad seem to patrol this site and anything that goes against their one sided view of things is marked down.
   
   I tend to view this as an attack on Free Speech and is a form of unrealistic censorship what else could it be.
   
   We may not always agree with someone's answer or indeed think the question was worth asking in the first place but that is the nature of the site we share.

   Tell me about it, the religious questions are the worse. I got a total of -6 votes, just because I believe the individual shouldn't sacrifice himself/herself for another person.

   I have noticed that too and it is frustrating.  I try to give thoughtful honest answers but I do notice they get voted down if they do not agree--or are not a popular answer.
   
   I do not vote answers down if I disagree.  I will vote it down if the response is mocking the person asking the question.

   Ironically the claim that the vote of any individual is wrong defeats the purpose of the vote. I don't agree with people voting on preference rather then the furthering of the discussion but to exercise a personal decision and to make your opinion known is an act that exercises your own freedom of speech.
   
   Each person's vote is their own and to make claims of persecution merely because the vote is a negative one and criticize people on their vote is a call to limit the freedom of their speech.

   I don't vote down merely because I disagree.  However...
   
   I DO vote down if the answer is overly religious in tone, or automatically turns the question to "God will provide....", "Put it in God's hands", blah, blah, blah.  So, in a sense I suppose I'm just doing the same as the bible-thumpers, eh?
   
   And, I DO vote down if the answer is just plain stupid or SO poorly written and full of grammatical/spelling errors that I just can't stand it.  I especially vote down if the title of the original question isn't even spelled or written correctly.

    personally i don't do it......but there was an answer to a question that i read once that was so impressive that i thought he deserved to be voted up but found out it gathered too many votes down just because it's answer wasn't what most readers wanted to accept.....can there be a way to check it

    NO.  I vote for stupid answers and stupid questions.  A good educated argument never hurt anyone.  And I am going to take the time and voter everyone up here here who makes a decent comment!

    I vote down answers which I find has no relevance to whatever the question was, or if it is offensive to certain people. I don't vote down answers that disagree with mine.

    No, nor do I vote down a hub because I don't like a product. I just had a hubber vote down a hub because they don't like candy.

    It is very frustrating, and I've noticed it happening quite a lot in the question threads I have asked (nothing on religion)!
    
    I vote up any answers that are thoughtful, whether I agree with them or not. The only time I would consider voting down answers is when the writer is mocking, rude or derogatory. I also would not vote down a hub (unless it was also flagged as against Hubpages' TOS).

    Unfortunately, it takes all types to keep dialogue going.  Those who cannot critically think and learn from all hubs are missing out on real education and knowledge.  I have had a few of my hubs voted down because someone did not agree with what I wrote.  I wish there was an additional feature that forces someone to explain why they vote down a hub.  In my opinion, it should not be allowed blindly.

    Oops, I get so busy reading the comments that I don't even notice the vote up and down options.
    
    Note to self: Pay attention next time.
    
    Is it okay to just vote on things that you feel passionate about, or are we supposed to be expressing an opinion on everything?
