Why do attractive young women get more followers on HP than overweight middle-aged men?

    Just wondered.

Why do attractive young women get more followers on HP than overweight middle-aged men? or middle aged women?

If that is the case it has simply to do with what we are attracted to as humans. One thing we are attracted to is beauty, and no amount of stats is going to chage that.

I personally follow whoever has hubs I like to read that interest me whoever wrote them , not by your photo  or age etc. I read comments in answers /forums and go read their hubs also go hub hopping for new people.

In my 8 months dabbling around on here Paul i have noticed it happen many times that women with just a few hubs will end up with 500 followers, but here's what you need to remember Paul. A follower is just a follower in principle, very few actually do much to help your efforts in any way at all. I would trade 10,000 followers of most social websites for 1 true colleague any day. By colleague i mean someone who actually takes an interest in mutually benefiting each others online efforts. Those are far and few in between you will find as the vast majority are out for them and them alone.

I gained a great deal of my followers not really based on any interest in my Hubs really, but more so in the fact that I try to help people out when they mail me with questions. You would be surprised from time to time that these type of people will truly appreciate your time and help and will reward you by going back to find an affiliate link that you placed somewhere when they decide to buy a product. That has happened to me only a few times, but it was really cool when it did.

Who knows whether a hubber is attractive or not?  Not everyone uses their own pictures on their profile.

Many don't even use their own pix for their profile.  I think it's more of how active the person is in HP rather than how they look.

Don't let my profile photo fool you, I am actually a 19 year old sexy and good-looking young lady.  Rather than using a pic of myself frolicking in a bikini, I thought I would use a photo of a random fat forty-something because it would lead to more followers, but so far I have been very disapointed...

Okay, I'm kidding.  I wrote this question when I was a little bored and intended it as a joke (my sense of humour!).  However, I was surprised by all the responses and I found peoples' answers genuinely interesting and thought-provoking, so a big thanks to all who answered!

(ps that really is me in the photo!)

    Paul,

Look at this from the general view(s) of the society that we live within...............

    attractive young woman!!!!!!!!

    middle aged, overweight man ............

You may have integerity, skill, wisdom, value, experience, and compassion..........but you don't have a tinkers chance in the public arena.

Modern society wants to " look ", not hear, listen, read or know..........they want to be visually entertained.

Stop your daughters from becoming prey for modern day society.  Tell them and your sons of thier worth and value.

I suspect that you know the answer to your question.

Truthfully, I don't follow anyone here based on their looks.  If they don't say interesting things (to me) in their hubs, then I won't read them.

Benjamin; I like your answer, really a follower that doesn't add to me is not the follower we want to see on our profile page. Joan and King are totally right, attractive whatever attract people, but for how long?

Thanks Wesman Todd because you gave me a hint to be selective when I follow someone smile

There are tons of people who are posing as young attractive women on the internet and they do it because they discovered something and probably don't want to publicize their findings. Those of you who do this will probably smile at my comment.
