I second the motion made by Uninvited Writer. Recently, I congratulated a frequent contributor at a science blog that I visit several times a week. He was a co-author of a publication at a peer-reviewed scientific journal. This was quite an achievement, because he did not have a PhD, was not affiliated with a university, and came to a solid albeit politically incorrect conclusion.
In my congratulation, I mentioned that I had linked to an abstract of his publication in one of my hubs, and I also posted a link to that hub. That posting of mine generated approximately 100 page views of my hub from the science blog.
There's nothing wrong with shameless self-promotion, if it's done in a tasteful way.
