Should we put a copyright message on our hubs?

I know that when we submit work, there is an automatic copyright. But there are people on other sites who do steal our work from time to time, claiming it as their own. Does just writing a simple copyright message on the hub help to prevent thieves from messing with our stuff? I've noticed that some people do have copyrights on theirs. What do you think?

ALWAYS.  ALWAYS LIST THE COPYRIGHT.  It will give you more leverage when engaging these copy pirates.

Placing such a notice does not prevent large-scale "theft." But I think it could make some individuals think twice before posting the contents to their blog etc.. There is no harm in placing a copyright notice.

It doesn't make a difference. I was on that new site yesterday that is stealing Hubs from us. I saw one that still had the "Copyright, All Rights Reserved" and the Hubber's name. It might cause a casual reader to refrain but someone bold enough to stael and clain credit on the internet does not care. It makes me so mad.

First of all, HubPages includes a copyright statement on the Hubs already, so if you were to write on into each Hub, you could actually accidentally trip the filter that scans for duplicate content.  (Some users have had this happen to them)

Secondly, a written statement isn't actually going to deter content thieves, as any longtime member of the site will undoubtedly have experienced.

The best way to protect your copyrights is to put in your own effort in defending them, or to have enough money to hire a lawyer to do it for you.  On this site, most people take the first option.

I don't know if it makes any difference. I got one of my hubs copied on another website. I think that if our hubs already have a copyright, then it won't make much difference whether we put it or not.

It is always good to do so. I also write copyright message on my Hubs. But there are some they do not restrain from stealing our work. I wrote a Hub couple of days ago and today I got a comment on that hub, that is has been copied has been copied, and also link was also provided. When I visited the site, I was shocked to see that my Hub was copied same as it is(including the copyright message). Hope we get some good solutions to to deal with these kind of issues.

I do, but the site I am going through right now is copying that also. I don't think it really matters.

I always do.  I don't use the copyright symbol, just say "All text copyright Marisa Wright".

I have a blog in my own name, where I have links to all my articles online.  So I make "Marisa Wright" a hyperlink to http://marisawright.com

That way, if the Hub is plagiarized, at least my name gets mentioned as the author - and if they forget to disable the links, I also get a free backlink.

Some people add a sentence something like, "This article is published on HubPages.com.  If you are reading this on another site, it has been stolen.  Please report theft to.....

It wont stop many people from copying your article but some people would stop from doing so or at least think twice from doing so. But just putting a statement wont stop all the people as one of ten people will be bold enough to to copy your article and take the credit for it.

but what is to stop the thieves from simply deleting any message, like a copyright or saying where the hub originates or anything else, before they publish it?

Claiming authorship with Google may help. It makes it clear what is your own creation. Many Hubbers are doing that now, as I have.

I agree with what relache says. To put in your own effort would be the best possible way. Hiring a lawyer is too expensive and the copyright statement will not stop them copying.
