Assuming you don't necessarily need/want to remain anonymous, is there any benefit to using your real name?

I've been using "FatFreddysCat" (or variations on it) as an online alias for years now, so when I signed up here it was only natural do use that tag.
I'm not trying to build myself up as a "brand name" writer so the alias works fine for me.

I prefer to be more anonymous. I don't want everyone to know everything about me. I would like to maintain some privacy. Some separation.
A lot of writers use pen names, sometimes several. I don't see it as any different.
