I use mind mapping and freewriting which I have hubbed about. Our best writing comes from writing about things we are familiar with and know - but putting our own spin on it. Sometimes researching how to do something, doing it and then including our trials/errors etc. to better the process.
With freewriting you just write - not for anyone else, but just yourself. It allows you to push your inner critic aside and just let ideas flow out. From that, you cull the good ideas you may want to explore further and do a mind map which can lead to unlimited ideas. Say your main idea was "making soap" - one of my favorite things :) then you branch out "best place to get ingredients" "how to make shaving soap" "soap making tutorial" "how to package and sell soap" etc.
After that, if you are interested in generating revenue hubs you take your title ideas and search them on the Google keyword tool and pick the ones that appear to have the most traffic with low competition etc.
This process has multiple steps, but they are quick steps - and the same process can be used to actually write the hub once you have the idea established. I've hubbed about all of this if you are interested. Try it out you'll be amazed at how much you can come up with to write about :)
