when we go to his account it says that this user doesn't exist, if we try to create a new account for him using his email and/or facebook account it says that these accounts are already linked to his hibpages account. Any ideas how to reinstate his account? He isn't sure if he closed it and there is no reason we are aware of for hubpages to have banned him. Would they have closed his account through inactivity. We have searched for information about reinstating accounts, to no avail.

Unless your friend had Hubs/content he put up, admin is just going to tell him to make a new account. If he did publish Hubs, then he should contact admin about this.
He didn't have any hubs on his account - he answered a few questions and then fell by the way side while he finished writing and publishing his books. Creating a new account will be ok however his facebook account is still linked to his old account

Thanks for the suggestion I think he has now set up a new account without the facebook link but hey ho...thanks for your help.
