   Why does my latest hub have such an unusually score?
   
   After receiving some positive comments, a healthy number of views, and getting featured, I thought my hub would at least be above a score of 50 by now, but it is now at 37. That is the lowest score I have ever seen! It is no less well-written than any of my other hubs. Could it be all the vote downs that people who disagree with my critical view of the indigo child phenomenon have been giving me?

   Maybe it's missing a critical word or two?  Editing is a crucial phase of the writing process.

   This is interesting! It seems like this is something that you are really concerned about. You mentioned that you got a lot of vote downs from people who disagree with your critical view of the indigo child phenomenon. That could be something to think about. Hubpages may see that that was an indicator that you might have turned those people away from reading your material. Hubpages bases some of their hub scores on how much traffic they think the hub would bring in. Seeing to it that you got a lot of thumbs downs recently might bring your hub score down. Also, people who might have looked at your next hub might have not seen it as standard quality with your opposing viewpoints.

   I'd be interested in knowing what the subject is.  My observation of my own account is that the scores are in part based on how prevalent the subject is on the site Hubpages.com.
   
   In other words, if you write about something no one else has, and also something seldom covered on the web at large - and do it well, your score for that hub will probably be very high; but if you write about a subject that has been covered a lot of times, regardless of how good it is, the score for that hub is likely to be very low.

   I'm having a similar problem with a new hub just published yesterday, still stuck at 48. That is the lowest I've ever received, it has a lot of views and a couple positive comments. It's about women and public bathrooms. I'm so confused right now.

   If you're referring to your Hub "Indigo Children: Spiritual Phenomenon or Infectious Scam?," the reason for the Hub currently having a score of "38" could be because your article appears to be your personal opinion of a subject which is not of interest to the general public. Starting your Hub with "This is a pretty dodgy one," negative terminology known in Canadian English and British English, but not usually used in American English, might not have helped.
   
   Readers not agreeing with what what you wrote and voting your Hub "down" could be a contributing factor to the low Hub score.

   I have an unpublished Hub that usually would have risen in score as its sits, but it's also at a low 48. I can't decide whether or not to publish!

   I've seen it before Spongy0llama, and it does recover.  I posted one yesterday and it has fallen to 51 after strong comments and a normal number of pageviews as well as shares and votes.  As with yours, mine is featured.  I expect it to turn around any time now.

   The score will increase with time. What I know or think is that Hubpages use a really complicated algorithm to calculate the score, which includes many factors, such as time, readers, content, etc. But I am not sure about that. I am interested in seeing the other answers. But don't worry, it should rise, if your content is ok.

    although you many healthy views and getting featured, the votes are equally important factor too. If the votes are down rather than up, your hubscore would go down too.

    I never let a score dictate whether or not I read a Hub. I have 120 Hubs with scores in the 90s down to the 50s. I do not worry about the individual Hub score, because until I know how it is determined, there is no way to know what will make it higher or lower, or if I agree with those demands. As I said in another question, I do not agree with the new push for more pictures, more videos, polls, etc. in Hubs. This is supposed to be a writing site. Appropriate illustrations are helpful in some cases, distracting in others. Some additional design tools that would let us change the layout, allow us to put pictures on the left as well as the right and things like that would help many make more attractive hubs.
