I don't believe that including a discrete copyright notice in the corner of the image would pose a problem. However, the correct method would be to include a link in the image attribution but this would count towards your outbound link count.

Of course, if you don't own the image copyright then you shouldn't tamper with the image at all.

Also, it all depends what your motive is. Is it to prevent others using your image without permission or to drive traffic towards your website?

Just checked the HubPages link provided by Daisy and it says:
"images or videos that contain PROMINENT  watermarks are also prohibited. " (My emphasis). Therefore, wouldn't a discrete copyright notice be permissible?

Marketing Merit, watermarks or notations of any kind (or degree of opacity) are not permitted on images in Hubs. If the image is yours, there isn't any need to place a copyright notice on it. It already is copyrighted if you created it.

Thanks Daisy, of course you are correct. My comment was intended to highlight the anomaly in the HubPages guidance between the page you referenced and this one...

No, you cannot watermark your images.

The HP Learning Center article "A Guide to Proper Image Use on HubPages" states, in part, that "on HubPages, it is not OK to use an image with a watermark. Watermarks detract from a Hub's overall appearance. If you own the photo, we recommend attributing your photo to yourself in the attribution box."

The quote that I have provided is from this article:

Daisy's answer is on target. This was covered in the Apprenticeship program - the HubPages policy is no watermarks on images, period - not of any sort, including discrete copyright notices. Same with videos.

One thing I just read is that Adsense will not approve of an image with a watermark..meaning some embedded image going across it...See the learing center for images..that is where I just did some reading.  Best to you

Watermarked images are against hubpages' quality standards so are likely to cause your hubs to get unpublished

You could consider putting the website address for your images when adding them.

The key to success on hubpages in many ways is enticing and holding a viewers attention. I know personally if I see photos on a website which are watermarked it shows a sign of poor quality and I'm highly likely to click away quickly

    Good Luck

No... we can't watermark anything. When I first came to HubPages I had heard about the term "watermark". But, I really didn't know what that meant. After posting a YouTube video that had the owner's website address showing in the screen, I subsequently learned from the HubPages team, the true meaning of watermark. No, we cannot watermark our images with our own domain/website!

Even thought Hubpages stated no prominent water marks, from reading through the forum and hubs, I gather water marks of any size and shape, whether prominent or not are very much frowned upon. I would advise against water marking your photos.
