Why do people add extra letters to words (i.e. the supermarket Giant or the city Silver Spring)?
As a society grows decadent, the language grows decadent. Instead of a prison, we now call it a Federal Correctional Institute (or FCI). This is combined with the fact that we have to sensationalize everything with cliche adjectives.
Im not sure what you're asking, but usually people add extra letters to be unique or stick out or simply because their first choice was taken
I suspect the short answer is sloppiness. The supermarket is Giant, but the sports team is the Giants. People hear "The Giants" all the time, and then, sloppily, pass the plural "s" on to the name of the supermarket.
Similarly, many places have "Springs" plural in their names: Colorado Springs, even Silver Springs, Florida. Silver Spring (MD) (no "s") is kinda rare. And people are kinda sloppy. So people say "Silver Springs" and get the name of the town almost right.
Both are correct. It depends on meaning. The supermarket giant indicates it's huge compared to the rest. The N.Y. Giants are a group, all bigger than the rest.

I will start with two letters. You need to keep the two letters I used and add on to them. You can re arrange the two letters, but they need to be in the word you come up with. This will continue on until no one can find any more words. Good luck all! Please use only these two letters... B Z.

Using your hub name or your real name, scramble the letter up and see how many words you can make, if any.
