How do you cope with stolen content?

I am not talking about how to report it and take it down, I am asking about how you deal with the fact that your work has been stolen. How do you react? Do you continue to write? give yourself a break? Do you look on the bright side?

I take it very lightly and feel proud that my content is worthy of being stolen. When duplicate products are caught in the market the original one gets the publicity. This rule applies everywhere. A habitual thief stealing content from here and there can not survive for long and the original work will be shown by the search engines at the top. When Key loggers can copy of your key strokes then why to worry about the content being stolen which will, by all means, be ignored by Google search engines.
I do not know any publishing platform where copied or stolen content can get recognition. Audiences and search engines are wise enough to differentiate between original and/or duplicate or stolen content. they why to file DMCA complaint and become tense?

Filing DMCA complaints is the only way to put a stop to them. While it's true most scraped content doesn't rank, much of it indeed does, often times higher than original material, which is why it's important to be vigilant. smile not tense, proactive

I say a few choice words and grumble a bit and then carry on.  It sucks that people have no scruples, but it would suck more if I gave up on what I love because of them.  So I file the DMCA's happily and laugh a little on the inside as one by one I get offender sites taken down LOL.

When writer's get tough and stick it to these people it gives them less of an incentive to keep doing it.

Awesome answer, I could  learn a thing or two from you! Your attitude is very positive and it's great that you are able to laugh about it afterwards.

Luckily I have not had any content stolen yet - to my knowledge! Hopefully Google Webmaster Tools or HP will notify me if and when stealing occurs (although judging by other hubbers' reactions you don't get a warning until it's too late, or if at all).

I really feel for those who have had material stolen. It makes my blood boil to think there are thieves waiting to copy whole hubs and paste them onto their own websites or wherever. It disgusts me.
If it did happen to me I'd file a DMCA immediately. Knowing how shocked I'd be I would probably stop writing for a few days, recover, then write some more with double determination.

I hope the powers that be, the Google engineers and other able experts, will soon come up with a foolproof software package that simply deletes any attempt to steal and copy whole or partially whole articles. Surely they can work something out?

no one ever notified me, take a couple of sentences from the middle of your hub and Google that phrase in quotes - you may be surprised

I daydream about dressing up as RoboCop, tracking down the thieves and dispensing with some much needed cyborg justice.

...and then I drink beer out of their empty skulls.

When it first started happening, I was livid. Now I'm just disillusioned - it's happening faster and faster. There just isn't enough time in the day to produce content and chase down thieves - filing DMCA after DMCA. Content I've written for clients is also being stolen off of their websites. With scrapers and penguins and pandas taking so many bites out of my traffic, I just don't know if it's worth it to continue to publish content.

Wow, took the words right out of my mouth. I know exactly how you feel. At first I felt like hey I will deal with it, no problem, but you are right it's happening more and more.

    Forgive.

    Move on.

    Forget.

Forgiveness is all about taking 100% responsibility. And a funny thing happens when you do this: with you taking 100% responsibility, you take complete control over your destiny and you can no longer be a victim! You can no longer blame someone else, because you're taking 100% responsibility.

Forgiveness is also about giving 100%, unconditional love. You show utter humility, but retain perfect confidence; the two are not mutually exclusive.

When you do this with fearlessness and feeling, miracles happen. You get that lucrative writing contract you've been dreaming about, or something even better.

This universe is so much more beautiful when you look at it from above, rather than from underneath.

That's great. I have tried to be positive, but it's starting to get to me. It helps to hear about others who are keeping a positive attitude smile
