Why are hubbers who only comment and criticize but do not write hubs allowed to remain here?

In the past two days, I have had two hubbers criticize my writings after not even thoroughly reading the article/hub.   When I check their profile page they have not even written one hub/article and one has been here for two years.  Why are these people allowed to remain here when they do not contribute writing to a WRITING COMMUNITY.  They only contribute comments that criticize.  Why isn't HP getting rid of these people.  What are your thoughts on this?

Yes, you are so right, suzettenaples! It angers me that they sit around criticizing everyone else's work but do not write their own hubs. The truth is, they probably are not able to write that well. It is hard to know really. Well, I have read plenty of hubs to know that you are an excellent writer so they are probably jealous of your talented writing skills.

Thank you for the compliment.  I did delete the one from yesterday as this person has been dropping in on the same hub for several months now.  Thanks for your response.

I've had this happen to me a few times. The last person that did this had actually been a member for two years, if I remember correctly. Their activity showed they commented and answered questions all the time but just never published a hub. To their credit, not all comments that I'd seen were as mean and uncalled for as they were for my own hubs. They actually left some great praise on a few other's hubs, which surprised me. So, they are proof that these types of profiles aren't always there to be rude toward others, although I still don't understand why they would create a profile for a site like this and never actually write a thing themselves.

One person actually went on one of my hubs and tore it apart, ignoring what was actually in my article and claiming I made statements that were no where to be found. I ignored them and deleted their comments and yet suddenly a non-hubber commented with kind words, praising this rude person and leaving a link to their own website. I found it funny that he was able to praise comments that I had literally deleted without approving them. I have a feeling those two were the same person even though I will never be able to prove it of course. I've had others tell me they have the same theory, that those profiles that don't have hubs are here just to promote their own work outside of Hubpages through their comments.

I have yet to have these types of members actually provide constructive criticism so my only guess is that they are here just to entertain themselves. I just ignore them, delete their comments as they come, and let them disappear back into cyberspace, hopefully never to return. I agree that these people have no place here, if their only aim is to be unnecessarily cruel.

Sorry Lisa, my response is below.  I don't know how that happened.

There is no medicine for jealousy.  Just ignore them. You should delete their comments.  These people are capable of doing no worth business as far as writing is concerned.  Their frustration may be prompt them to do these kind of evil works. Avoid them totally.

Thank you Lisa.  One comment I did delete because they had been bothering me on this one hub for several  months.  Their perseverance was amazing.  The other person I told to start writing some hubs of their own before criticizing ours as he/she had been on here for two years also.  The nerve.  I  am glad to know I'm not the only one to experience this.

That is a great question, as I have often wondered myself.  I have not received any negative comments, but there some who follow me, who have zero hubs and never comment?  So strange.  I noticed one was banned.  So, if they are harassing you, you can flag them, plus I think HP may look at them then, if there are no hubs published.  I saw one who had been on HP for over 15 months without a single hub.  I would like to know the answer, as this is a writing site, so why else would one be here, but to write!

Thank you Faith.  I have never flagged anyone before except on Hub Hoppers.  Is there a flag on the profile page?  There must be.  That is what I will do then.
      Thanks!

The first thing that comes to mind is that is a writer/hubber here but maybe is jealous of your success. They could have created another "anonymous" account and criticized your works to make you look bad. That's the only thing I can think of, especially if it's the same person who continually leave you criticism. You can just delete their comments.

Glad to hear you say this.  This thought crossed my mind, but I didn't want to seem paranoid.  I have deleted the comments by both of them.

Suzette....honey, anywhere and everywhere we go in our lifetime, there are wonderful, interesting and personable people to meet, get to know and interact with, as we choose.
Then, of course, there are the not-so-special individuals, with their various issues, quirks and deficiencies.....They are the pathetic ones who have empty lives and dormant heart & soul.  They are slow to evolve and even slower to put forth the effort.
Their goal in their simple, sad life, because they  just can't seem to fit in and play well, with all the other reindeer, is to spread their own misery to as many people as possible.
They are to be pitied......and then forgotten.  Never allow them past your thresh hold or into your pleasant world.  Brush off their rudeness and immaturity....and go forward as usual.   We share the world with all kinds, don't we?   Fortunately, we needn't accept nor entertain them.......Be you, be happy and be grateful...

fpher:  You are so sweet.  Yes, everything you are saying is so logical and true.  I should just ignore them.  I don't know why I allowed myself to get so bothered today about this.  This so much for your input.  You are a gem!

It "bothered," you...becuz you are a sensitive, positive individual.....and being somewhat attacked with INSENSITIVE, NEGATIVITY, is shocking & wounding, quite naturally.  This is a GOOD thing.  Stay YOU and forward March!

I think a community "writing site" does better with critics that have zero Hubs than those that have loads of Hubs with poorly written content and incorrect info.  Plus, those instigators often stir up the comment field, which adds value to the page, in some cases.

Good Question.   And lots of good, kind, and thoughtful responses about ignoring, forgiving, and/or deleting their rude, hateful, or inappropriate comments.   And sometimes we have to do just that.  OK.

But none of the responses actually answers the original question:    Why does HUBPAGES -- which is so insistent that we publish "quality hubs" -- allow non-productive, mean, hateful, and destructive individuals who have published  "NO HUBS"  to remain on the site.?   It is a valid question, would improve the site and HP management needs to respond to the question.   Thank you.

Yes, you hit the nail on the head.  My point exactly. I  know everyone else dances around the issue.  Don't want to upset the HP gods.    HP management where are you?  Thank you Theresa.
