   Why do negative questions about HubPages always get the most responses?
   
   We need to encourage good quality writers to these pages.  I think that if we really want to get the site back to where it apparently once was -  then we need to look after it as if it were our very own.

   This is easier said than done. I think so many have left, or are leaving, because of the negative changes that HP has made. Love writing poetry? Forget about that on here anymore.
   
   Saying that, I do enjoy the community and the payouts.

      JThomp42 - Two positives - you enjoy the payout and you enjoy the community - without HubPages you would have neither.   I just think we need to look after the brand name.   In a way, it  does belong to us, as long as we write on it.There, I said it.

   I completely agree - if we look after it, I think we will be taken care of too.  Knock it and we risk losing it completely.

   I'm not 100% sure of what you mean by "negative questions". If it has anything to do with questions concerning politics, religion, sexual orientation, infidelity/cheating, pro-life/pro-choice and so on; All these types of questions push people's buttons. They generally have very (strong) opinions about these subject matters.
   Anyone who posts these types of questions is looking to "stir the pot" sort of speak. If you asked; "How do you stay positive when negativity is all around you?" You're not likely to get as many responses as if you wrote any question dealing with President Obama, Marriage Equality, or anything having to do with religious beliefs.
   JThomp42 is correct when he states there have been many good HP writers who have left. In my opinion it has a lot do with the changes HP has made with regard to having a "standardized look and feel for hubs" such as length requirements, number of photos, video embedded.
   The Gettysburg Address would not be allowed to be published on HP due to lack of "quality".  (It has less than 300 words.)The same holds true for poetry, recipes, and various other topics some writers like to write about. In an effort to raise standards/quality it took away some of the "creative freedom" that many good writers value. If someone has written books, contributed to magazines, and has articles on various other websites is told enough times that their HP submissions (lacks quality) eventually they will leave. Very often "quality" is in the eye of the beholder. If something is really bad the people will flag it, vote it down, or choose not to read it.

      I guess that ultimately HubPages is a business like any other.  The people who run it have to do it their way.  I am sure they fully understand how difficult it can be to please everyone and still make the business a viable one.

   I respond to the negative questions with positive responses because, at least for now, I have nothing negative to say about HP. I think this is a great community of writers and the guidelines have made me a better writer.

      sheilamyers - I have nothing negative to say either - I would like us all to focus more on the positives than the negatives - I love writing on HubPages.  It has helped to give me a  real sense of purpose.

      How about - Is hub pages Dying a slow death?  Certainly it has caused a lot of discussion.  Looking from outside a forum - perhaps on Google - would it not be better to see  - Are HubPages on the mend?  Just a matter of opinion  I guess.
