From one of my three Rhode Island Reds I got a tiny lavender egg. I have had two double yokes from one so far but being slightly more than a year old I have never seen anything like this and just wondered what may have caused it?

Thanks Amanda; just knowing mine are not the only ones doing weird eggs makes me feel better.
But it should look like the other eggs size wise and it is so tiny. They never even in the beginning laid eggs that small a year ago. ? Thanks though; will look into your pigment theory.
I say call your local veterinarian and ask the question. Best to get expert advice. I also read that the diet and nutrients of a chicken can affect the shell color and the yolk color, but a vet would be able to give you a more accurate answer.
