   How serious is the issue of poor literacy and content standards on HubPages?
   
   I have recently taken to the habit of daily "hub-hopping" and have been astounded by the massive amount of content which is both barely literate and poorly structured. Far too many hubs are riddled with structural inconsistencies and generalized anecdotal rhetoric. Am I the only one who has noticed such an epidemic of low-quality hubs? Is there more that we can do to resolve this issue?

   It has definitely gotten worse on HubPages over the last year. I really have no idea what to do on the matter, except report the issues.

   The changes I've noticed are that hubs are not featured unless they are up to par. So Google does not get them.
   So it's an in-house thing--this writing whatever comes to mind in an anecdotal fashion about your own life. It doesn't go out to the rest of the world, I assume. (yes/no?)
   I'd say that all hubs that are not up to featured standards probably should not be available. Yet, writers starting out would not be able to learn from their mistakes.
   People have to take note of the number of check offs that a hub lights up in the right hand top corner of their blog as they are making a final review. If you don't meet those check offs, don't publish it!
   AND WRITERS NEED TO COMPOSE ON MS WORD (or another word processing program)   AND THEN TRANSFER IT. WRITING ONE'S CHAIN OF THOUGH GOES NOWHERE.

   This is great information to know. I am just about to start filling my HubPages with content or Hubs, and I am extremely new to this world. As a newbie, my suggestion would be to share this information upfront as one is signing up. Adhering to the guidelines of quality should be at the forefront, but is this an assumption made on the part of the writer or the platform allowing the writing to be published? Basically, some people are just not going to know whether what they are writing is quality or not. In my experience in an online forum education, most people think that what they write is quite good.

      My qualms are with the incredibly poor command of the written language and extremely lazy writing I frequently encounter. I can tell just by your comment that your written expression is above and beyond the majority of hubbers.

   While I was waiting for my content to transfer from Squidoo, I hopped hubs every day. I kept expecting to see brilliant writing, because the folks in the forums were making such a fuss the poor quality of Squidoo's content.
   
   What I saw when I hopped was writing that was as bad or worse than the worst of Squidoo: poor spelling and grammar, badly constructed sentences, and a lack of valuable content. There some good writers here at HubPages, but there are also a lot of people who simply shouldn't attempt to write anything until they can pass a basic written English test.

   Hubpages does have some quality control measures, but you are definitely right about there being too much low quality content. I imagine it is having an effect on how all hubs, even the good ones, are rated by Google. Unfortunately, I don't think there's much we can do other than hope that Hubpages is increasingly stringent about quality control.
