Is it true that you can follow too many hubbers, causing your hub score to lower?

I have been wondering if following a large number of hubbers can cause your hub score to get 'dinged'. I recently had a relatively new hubber (who shall remain nameless) tell me that following too many hubbers will bring down your hub score several points? I thought that by following a number of hubbers I was sharing the hub love, and doing my part in supporting interesting and high quality hubbers within the community. Kind of bummed me out to think this would cause for a negative reaction from the team?...and seems unlikely, however, it's worth asking about in my mind. Thanks for helping.
