Hi, I currently have 4 hubs posted and I am literally not getting ANY traffic. I got maybe 10 views on the days I published a hub and then nothing. For today I have 0 views. This is very depressing for me to be honest in trying to continue on with this site. Is it normal to get 0 traffic until you have like a gazillion hubs up?
All of these hubs are relatively new. You have to give it time for the search engines to find you. Writing more hubs does help raise all of them up as you show your authority, and can link related hubs to each other, so that you can keep your readers longer on your pages.
New hubs go into a pending mode for 24 hrs and then they are allowed to be indexed by the SE's they are viewable to those on Hubpages but mostly to those using the hopper. You need to focus on promoting your hubs through social media. Some people do quite well here with just a few hubs but if it is income you are after then you have to think about product, the more product the more you can earn unless you have some product that nobody else has and everyone wants.
Writing on Hubpages is a marathon and not a sprint as the saying goes. Don't worry too much, you're traffic should pick up but it takes time. Keep publishing. You already seem to have grasped the importance of creating Google-friendly titles for the search engine and your Hubs look interesting.
You can visit Hubpages learning center for tips on how to get traffic;
http://hubpages.com/learningcenter/attract-readers
I suggest trying to self promote your hubs as much as possible. The people making good money on this site either has been here for awhile or they do a great job promoting it. Use sites such as facebook, twitter, pinterest to get your friends involved with your hubs. Then you can also use sites like redgage and digg. to also get your links out there for others to see as well. Good luck and keep up the work. I have only been here for a few months and I am still learning as well!
Welcome to HubPages please don't feel badly. We ALL started in the same place. Creating traffic from search takes time. As mentioned, keep adding new Hubs and link them together if they are 'related' and don't be shy to link to others too. Promotion of hubs is on us, HP only provides the platform.
Thanks a lot for the helpful advice and support. Honestly right now I just have my writing talent to depend on. I am completely clueless when it comes to marketing and linking, etc.
Writing hubs is often the easiest part Dontei!
Looking at your profile, your first hub seems to have been published less than a week ago. This is very early days. Success rarely happens overnight.
In 3 years time, you could have 300 hubs and still get next to nothing in traffic outside of HubPages. Your hubs ideally need to be ranked highly on Google, in order to generate organic traffic and must also be related to topics that people are regularly conducting searches for.
Generating traffic often needs a helping hand such as social bookmarking. Don't overdo this though.
Hope you're not downhearted but I must be perfectly honest and say that your expectations seem a little unrealistic. What is happening is the norm.
Well, luckily for you there's a lot of Hubs and forums with tips and advice. Use the search up on the corner. Type in 'traffic' and you'll have lots of info, how, what, where, when, why, all answered.
One way to get extra views, until search engines pick you up, is to interact with other people on hubpages and comment on blogs outside of hubpages.
Search on google for blogs related to your topics and then leave insightful comments on their articles, and you can link back to your profile page URL, especially in comment luv enabled blogs. It also gives you some extra back links for search engine credibility!
Some of my hubs get no views on one day, then 40 the next. Who knows!
thanks so much everyone, kathleen im actually happy to hear that you may get 0 one day and 40 the nxt. This means that I may still have a chance! And relationshpc, thank you for you suggestion, Im getting on that right away
Dontei - the other thing to think about is your titles. As an example - Hot Cross Bun Recipe - there are hundreds of articles with the same title - try and use Google Adwords to research titles that get some traffic and are unique....
I think you should add more to your profile. We like to know more about fellow Hubbers. Check out other profiles to get ideas. Before I follow someone, I like to know if we have anything in common. Then I will know if I want to read their work (or not). Having good supportive followers means a lot! Read other Hubber's work and comment on their work. They will probably read your Hub and comment. That gets things going. We all support each other here.
Good luck!
So would this be better? "Easy Hot Bun Recipe"
easy hot cross bun recipe
This is somewhere on the Hubpages Help site, but this is what I heard about Google Adwords:
-Make sure you refine your search to 'exact' or 'contains'. So it will contain the phrase "hot cross buns" or is the phrase "hot cross buns." If not, you will get millions of results with titles containing one or more of those three words.
-Adwords will show you similar titles along with the results for your title.
-Choose one that are searched between 800 times a month and 40,000 times a month. That way, there isn't a lot of competition, but there's enough viewership to generate revenue (you wouldn't want something that gets searched only 10 times per month).
Some people mentioned social networking sharing. They are right. On days where I share my profile, or a specific hub, I get tons of views. I was featured as "Hub of the Day" recently and got hundreds of views in one day, where on the day before I had just a couple (because I shared on Facebook). Some of my hubs go unviewed for weeks. Try and keep the scores above 80 (and remember, they start out usually around 50 or 60, so give them about 2 days to fully 'mature' as they aren't even featured within the first 24 hours). Hubs with high scores tend to remain featured, though I'm not sure what that exact score is.
I just saw this and note that you have changed that title.
I'm going to suggest you change it again, and here is why.
Some looking for hot cross buns will likely use the plural when typing their search phrase into the search engine.
With your title having the words 'hot cross bun' (singular), you may miss out on those who search for the plural with the 's'.
Those searching for hot cross bun (singular) will still find you.
Google sees letters in certain orders, not words as such.
Though once they have identified the words, they then want to see synonyms of that word to make sure they get the subject matter right.
So 'buns' might be called 'cakes' or 'cookies' or whatever, but save those words for the body of the hub, and only use them once or so. Your main use will be of the word 'buns'.
Have your main keywords, which in your case will be 'hot cross buns' and 'recipe' in the title, url and summary.
You can't change the URL, but no matter, it already has the main keywords (plural) in it which is hot cross buns.
The summary misses out on the word easy, but you can add that in.
I would change the title to Easy Recipe for Hot Cross Buns. If someone already has that title go for something like Fast and Easy Recipe for Hot Cross Buns, or Hot Cross Buns - An Easy, Old-Fashioned Recipe (seeing you have 'old-fashioned' in your URL and summary).
Your title should contain less than 70 characters. Any more than that, and Google ignores them. It is good practice to put your main keywords (which are the words people use to find your hub) as near the start of the title as possible to make sure Google sees them.
Hope this helps
Thanks for your post. I thought I was alone getting zeroes on my hubs for the past two days but you're right. I am really wondering what's going on. I'm even wondering maybe I should lay low for a while and maybe it will change, because somebody here did say a few days ago that her numbers were falling whenever she watches her hubs too much. But I think there are other reasons. I will just wait and see, watch and learn.
You can always use the learning center for more tips.Morever,Hubpages is a long run. Please do not get disappointed time will surely turn in your favour.

Trying to see if I understand this correctly. The trackers only work from outside of HP, correct? So if I have a new affiliate tracker on my profile page or in a hub, it's worthless to me, right? And if I link from one of my hubs to someone else's via a traffic tracker, again, it does me no good,...

I've been a "hubber" for a week now and am really enjoying what I'm doing. The people in this forum have been very helpful and I appreciate your help.So far, I've written 6 hubs (and am working on number 7) and have held off trying to "promote" them (I'm thinking it would...

All,I would like to generate more traffic to my Hubs from outside sources, as it is my understanding that these are the folks that are more likely to 'click.' Don't get me wrong, I appreciate your reading my Hubs, too, but just want to add a bit more into the mix.Could someone please make a...

I am kind of tired of this whole traffic thing. Everyone else claims great success, and I can't get a view. I have only 2 views today, and 23 views for the whole week.I have tried everything to get traffic, and nothing is working for me. I even joined several social sites, and my traffic has only...

I've seen some hubbers with over 90 score, but their hubs only score 60+ each. Others have high scoring hubs but lower profile scores. So I'm ignoring scores for now alltogether as I'm new.But what kind of traffic is "good" for a new hub - say within 1 week, 2 weeks and one...
