The much feared new Penguin algorithm is being released right now. Google's Matt Cutts said "2.3% of English queries will be impacted by this update."
Expect PageRanks to change today, too.
I feel like Joe Bftsk...is it ever going to stop raining on me???
I don't know how it effect my blogs and hubs. Stop messing with algorithms Google.
I just updated my 'Google Penguin' Hub to reflect the roll out. Now we have to wait about 24 hours to check the fall out.
So anybody who's following their Analytics notice a traffic change today?
It's really hard to tell by looking at one day's data - but I'm seeing a 50% increase for Thursday over Wednesday for the same time period - the real-time is also pretty active - it's normally quiet at this time.
My Wednesday v Thursday traffic is normally pretty static.
I am not getting excited though as it's early yet - if this trend continues for two or three weeks then I'll say Penguin helped me!!!
From what I see a few yahoo answers that were ahead of me are now on page 2 from page 1. So I'm guessing something happened. Anyone else noticed this?
Well just worked out why I got a spike in traffic - May 23 is the date of the first Beatle's concert - I have a Beatle's hub that gets a huge spike of traffic every year on this day!
I'm not sure if this was the panda penguin or whatever effect but my traffic is doing well now! oh yeah back to what it was 2 weeks ago. I've still to check out the forums to make sure that it's actually an update though.
+1 What exactly should we expect? It can have a positive effect?
If it is an algorithm update it's highly unlikely that it would affect you (As it's just around 2 - 3% of search terms that are affected). If at all your hubs get decent traffic (A few of the many hubs that we have) then there's a chance that you would see a rapid decrease or increase in traffic. I'm seeing an increase in one of them and from getting 100 views a day it's now at 300+. Looking at the live stats on Analytics it's really cool seeing the phrases that I'm ranking well for.
Yup thanks read it on Search Engine Land just now http://searchengineland.com/penguin-4-w … ive-160544
That makes it sound as if Panda has already been completed. I hope so, because it didn't affect me if it is.
Bring on them Penguins and Panda Bears, My hub traffic is low enough not to worry ever again. Hah!
The Google Penguin Update is now complete, across all languages. Webspam from sites in languages other than English were hit the hardest. The storm has passed.
Of the more than 150 sites I monitor as an SEO consultant, not one has seen a change yet in PageRank.
My guess is that Google wanted to finish the Penguin Update before it displays the quarterly PageRank update. Still waiting for that.
From what Paul E said in this forum post http://hubpages.com/forum/topic/112724? … st2401957, this is might be a good update for those of us suffering traffic loss. My traffic is up today, and it's thursday, so I'm not complaining!
Penguin targets webspam and spam links. Devaluating websites and webpages whose practices violate Google's Webmaster Guidelines should give a boost to sites and pages with better judgment.
Hmmm. Does that mean that the HP FB page will be grossly devalued? Maybe to the point that a link posted there will hurt, not help, SEO? Personally I'd call that page nothing but webspam.
I have never been hit by any changes in any updates, except in a positive way...but I can imagine how annoying it would be if I was. I would love to see exactly what their expectations are...
Facebook links are NoFollow, so Google isn't recognizing them. Facebook is just for traffic.
Panda runs continuously now, so you'll never notice a traumatic, Web-wide change like before.

Just to make sure we REALLY can't tell which algorithm change is causing what, Google Penguin just updated for the first time in months. While Panda evaluates overall content quality on a domain-by-domain basis, boosting or downranking pages found on that domain, Penguin attempts to weed out webspam...

After sitting on this for a few days it's looking to me that some HP writers just took another major hit with this newest "Penguin" update from Google. My page views after subdomains were about 5,000 a day. Then they sank to 2,500. Now today they are at a dismal 500 views - the slide...
