It's easy to give credit for a single image/photo. But what if a hubber makes a collage of 2 or more photos? It becomes a little tricky to properly attribute each of the respective owners of the different photos in your collage.
We can attribute all the respective photo owners in a separate text box, but it would be very convenient and hassle-free to have a collage photo attribution feature right in the photo capsule.
Hope we can get such a feature soon! It would be awesome!
Great idea! Perhaps something that would work for both collages and really long attributions at the same time... Some of the ones I get with the "new" CC (Creative Commons) rules are really long and ugly and should be made into a footnote not left under the picture messing up the page.
Are all of the photos you are using licensed for the creation of derivative works? I know a lot of photographers who do not allow new works (which is what a collage is) to be made from photos they make available on the Internet.
I always make sure that the photos I use are "free to use, share or modify."
Most CC-licenced photos allow you to make adaptations.
It is far better to dig around and find photos that do not need attribution.
Attribution makes pages look ugly and amateurish (like some kind of school project). It also forces you to link out to sites that are not relevant to your topic which does not help with Google's appraisal of the hub.
Excellent points, Will Apse! I generally take all of my own photos--probably 97% of the photos I take myself. I rarely need to go searching for an existing graphic, but when I do they tend to need complex attribution because they're obscure or complex :-(.
Note that Wikimedia Commons is the best/fastest place I've found to locate re-usable graphics (photos, diagrams, etc.), though many of them require the "CC by..." attributions, which get horribly long. :-(
Best bet I've found is to take all of your own photos and attribute them to yourself. (I believe an attribution should be required for all graphics, even if that attribution is simply "Public domain.") Cell phone photos are generally high-enough in quality and easy enough to do, too!
I would love to get my own photos, but it's not always possible.
Very true, healthmunsta! Getting my own photos is just my ideal/goal. Sometimes a person just has to use photos taken by others that require attribution in order to get just the right point across in the Hub!
It's not always possible to dig around and get a suitable picture, and even if you may, the picture may not always be high quality.
Besides, for some one like me with a slow internet connection, digging around for attribution-free images can take ages. Sometimes looking for suitable pictures can take more time than it actually takes to write the hub.
Some sites allow you to use their pictures without a link back. This way, you can completely avoid the dreaded linking up and the risk of the links breaking in future.
I have to agree, though, that attribution can end up making your page looking ugly and unprofessional. But it's still miles better than using photos and leaving out their due credits.

I want to be sure I'm doing this the right way. I've been showing Audrey Hunt and the photo date for attribution on my own photos. I've also used Audrey Hunt/vocalcoach (my hub name) and the date of the photo. The Learning Center doesn't give information for attributing your own...

Well, not exactly "nightmare", but I'm hoping someone can help me out.I usually get my pictures from freedigitalfotos.net and Wikimedia Commons. For almost all my hubs, what I do is to create collages using these pictures. So one collage can have up to 8 pictures. The boxes under Name and...

I'm aware that many people who have take their own photos and added them to hubs have been unhappy about the "No watermarks" rule on Hubpages. There is a simple way around this - that should both protect your content, increase your traffic and not break the rules.Create a MADE FOR...

When I use my on photos, should I include an attribution. Should I type in my own names as the source or leave it blank?
by Kristin Kaldahl 11 years ago
I have gone back and tried to fix my photo attribution issues on many of my pages. I'm hoping I have this right. Can someone who understand photo licensing look at these photos and see if I'm getting it right. Each of these has different types of licensing from my own photos to...

Do You Spend A Lot Of Time Choosing Hub Photographs?I'm usually about 60-40. 60% of the time writing and about 40% looking for good photographs. I've read some hubs recently and the photographs were stunning and I thought the writers must have spent at least some quality time choosing just the...
