   Yes, but a lot of people do it improperly, then trumpet that SEO is dead.
   
   Properly speaking, SEO is simply optimizing your content so that search engines and human users can navigate it easily and understand what your content is about. That way, they send you the audience which is looking for the kind of content you have.
   
   This is like a decent restaurant putting up a visible sign and a convenient parking lot, creating a nice readable menu with a take-out menu customers can take with them for reference, and getting itself listed in restaurant guides.
   
   The improper way is to try to trick search engines into sending your site traffic, whether or not it really covers the topics you're telling search engine it does.
   
   This is like a restaurant with really bad food and no service paying lots of shills to write glowing reviews of it.
   
   The latter technique fails sooner or later, because search engines (or customers) eventually figure out that there is no edible food to be found at that location.

         Don't overthink it.  SEO is essentially about doing things that will help search engine users find your page more easily in the search results.  Easy things like using descriptive titles that reflect what a searcher would naturally type in Google, writing well so that Google does not penalize your page for being low-quality, things that should come naturally for the most part.  Try this site for a good introduction to the basics and more advanced techniques http://www.moz.com

   With SEO you can be earning in thousands of dollars instead on cents without using SEO. Yeah the SEO can be very confusing to a newbie. I was also in the same state back in time but I researched out a lot about it. I tried it, failed some times but learnt from my failures. The best place to start with the SEO learning is by watching youtube SEO tutorial videos. I found videos by Mr Tolga who owns rankya seo services very helpful. Here is a link to the free SEO course.

   SEO is just like learning any new art. It requires effort and time. I say try it and then you will see how much difference it will make.

         I think hubpages should have someone, or an easier software to assist the simple man, who may not be familiar with SEO. But who is passionate about writing and just want to get the right amount of views he/she deserves.

   While there are some people on HP that are good with SEO, most people here know a lot less than they think they do.
   If you really want to learn about SEO, you need to go outside HubPages and learn from the authority sites.
